Kickboxing Match-ups the public would pay to see?

With all the politics going on in Kickboxing (Martial Arts in general) it seems that a lot of fighters in Ireland won't get to face each other to find out who's the best at their respective weights.
Its easy to say you're the best but maybe not so easy to back it up so why not voice opinions right here on boards even if its just for a bit of fun.
What fights would you like to see happen? - lets shake things up a little.

Pete you run a lot of shows in Galway, ever though about running shows in Dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,621 ✭✭✭yomchi

Pete Foley Vs Joe Canning for the undisputed king of the IKF :);)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Kickboxing fights only please - don't want to upset the MT boys as they seem to have their act together and none of our business.
I have thought of running a big show in Dublin and have looked at a few venues but I'd need some top Dublin fighters to pull it off (and theres lots of them) so ya never know....!
Lol at the Undisputed IKF fight off - thats the spirit, keep it lighthearted.
I'll be back soon with some matches I'd like to see so please feel free to add to them and remember, its just a bit of crack so no offence to anyone.

Heres some fights I wouldn't mind paying to see and theyr'e all domestic dust ups:

1/ Gary Manogue (Galway) V James Kelly (Dublin), Ronan Mc sweeney (Dublin) or Barry O' Toole (Dublin) - last ones under negotiation. -70kg

2/ Vinny Di Ruscio (Kilkenny) V Tommy Mc Cafferty (Donegal) -73kg

3/ Eric Daly (Galway) V Adam Leyton (Ennis) -63kg

4/ Sean Cumiskey (Galway) V Adam Leyton (Ennis) -60kg

5/ John Paul Soammes (Kilkenny) V Wilson Snoddy (Belfast) -67kg

6/ Cathal Manning (Galway) V Richard Beale (Waterford) -80kg

7/ Nicola Collins (Galway) V Rebecca Dillon (Dublin) -56kg

8/ Rebecca Dillon (Dublin) V Barbara Delaney (Dublin) -52kg

9/ Alex Novac (Galway) V John O' Shea (Kilkenny) -67kg - (happening in Kilkenny in October so don't miss it)

10/ Dermot Maher (Kilkenny) V Garth Frampton (Waterford) -78kg

11/ Jennifer Baranyai (Galway) V Ann Marie Bergin (kilkenny) -63kg in a rematch as the first was a cracker.

12/ Bryan Merrigan (Galway) V Chris Coyle (Donegal) -68kg

Now wouldn't any promoter love to put on that show as all these fighters are of a good high standard and all are good ambassadors for their sport.
What other match-ups would you like to see?
Remember, its just for fun and you never know - you may get to see some of them some day.

    Didn't Rebecca beat Barbara already?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Dunno but I didn't see it - wouldn't mind tho.
Nikki beat Barbara twice before but two tough fights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭thelibertyboy

ronan beat those two already and poor barry got his ass kicked by him too much:)
and rebecca is in a different league she would demolish those both :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Well Ronan and Gary might be an option then and as for Rebecca kicking Nikkis ass - have you seen Nikki fight lately cos I've seen Rebecca lots of times and I've a lot of respect for her but Nikki is on fire lately too?
By the way, I heard Barry beat Ronan and Wilson Snoddy on the same night at some AKAI eliminations.
    Anyway, keep em comin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭thelibertyboy

haha i thought it said barry maguire :) srry oh nd trust me dont think thre is a girl on earth tht can beat rebecca iv been to her last two fight demolished both apponents

    Any more interesting match-ups guys?

Whats Richie Beale up to these days?

    Great topic pete.

What about Ken Horan v Myles Price?? Surely that would be a good dust up!!

As for Bryan Merrigan v Chris Coyle, possibly this might happen at the end of the summer, however we are considering dropping Chris down to -64kg in the foreseeable future. Watch this space!!

I think Myles is concentrating on MMA these days, although he is header enough to take any fight if someone put it to him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Hi Joe, Bryan and Chris may be an option for Sept 18 in Gort if it suits - I think it would be a cracker - 2 good lads who don't give up easily and more importantly, always turn up for fights.
I offered Ken to fight Myles on a couple of occasions but no go as I think he was looking for more international fights at the time and as for Myles, he's fighting MMA as a Pro these days so that rules him out for amatuer kickboxing at least in the IKF.

    What weight is Casserly?
And why not the same night - winner take all....!

Cant see Ken fighting oriental rules I dont think but you never know!!

Been years since Ireland has had a decent 8 man contest, bout time we had another one. Lets get it on!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Not sure about an 8 man as its tough work to get 8 guys/girls the same weight in the one room on the same date (trust me, I did it with the K-1 King of the Heavyweights a few years ago and had fighters from Ireland, England, Holland, Belgium, Northern Ireland and France) and it just takes one pull out to f**k it up but I'd be interested in promoting a series of 4 man events at various weight divisions.
What about one fighter from each province: Ulster, Munster, Connacht & Leinster to fight off on the one night.
I'll put up several weights to start the ball rolling and we can do one on Dec 4 at "Seasons Beatings 3" in Galway.
    Maybe a -70kg 4 man event?

That would be worth watching, any of those match ups BUT it would never happen. I know Casserly and his team would be well up for it but others not so much lol:p

Once again, what weight is Casserly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

Mid to high 70's. I'd say 75-78 but I'm guessing. I'm sure Paddy will clear it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 573 ✭✭✭chprt

mark is 78kg pete at a day before weigh in, but has fought up to 84 just to get the fights

will fight any of them lads K one but wont fight kickboxing as were a Thai gym.

He'll fight all 3 of them on different nights as that will mean 3 purses for him, and I would consider a 4 man if the purse was good and would need to know who else is in it

hope to work something out with you pete

cool, but these guys your calling out will never take a fight v Casserly in k1 rules even though some of them have fought k1 rules before ( v other full contact fighters ) it would be great to see though as all very skilled and tough athletes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

Hey Paddy, can't speak for Horan or Price but Manning might go for it sometime - I'd like him to have a couple more K-1 fights first as he's predominately a Full Contact fighter.
He's sittin at about 84kg at present but can make 81kg without too much trouble.
Why don't you give me a call and see if we can sort something out - I may be able to put some International fights Marks way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭j walsh

I wouldn't mind getting a few bob on Mark for that 4 man event :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭black dragon

We're gettin slightly off thread here guys as this was supposed to be directed at Full Contact Kickboxing only - mind you its good to see the MT guys give their tuppence worth and maybe we'll see some good compromised rules bouts come out of it - meanwhile, any more good match-ups in the pipeline?
I spoke with Ronan Mc Sweeney and he's up for a fight with Gary Manogue and will confirm shortly - hopefully for September 18 in Gort.
Once again, heres some fights I'd like to see happen:

1/ Gary Manogue (Galway) V James Kelly (Dublin), Ronan Mc sweeney (Dublin) or Barry O' Toole (Dublin) - last ones under negotiation. -70kg

4/ Sean Cumiskey (Galway) V Adam Leyton (Ennis) -60kg

5/ John Paul Soammes (Kilkenny) V Wilson Snoddy (Belfast) -67kg

6/ Cathal Manning (Galway) V Richard Beale (Waterford) -80kg

7/ Nicola Collins (Galway) V Rebecca Dillon (Dublin) -56kg

8/ Rebecca Dillon (Dublin) V Barbara Delaney (Dublin) -52kg

Under K-1 rules I'd back Casserly myself but under full contact rules I'd put my house on Manning - now back to the original point of this thread..!

Hmmmm, over 1200 views but not too many people seem to want to see any fights in particular.
C'mon people, no one is going to bite your heads off for voicing your opinion and remember, its just a bit of fun to try & keep Kickboxing interesting.

might be worth putting up a poll to see if many would attend one of your shows if it was in Dublin

JP hasn't fought for a long time but Snoddy has been very busy so could be a different story now - would make for a good match-up.
Another fight I've been trying to match is Eric Daly (Galway) V Adam Leyton (Ennis) - I wanted the fight for Saturday 18 September in Gort as its between Ennis and Galway so would be a huge draw and I even offered a return match in Ennis with a guarenteed 100 supporters at least.
Not happening tho as I think Leyton is injured or something.

found this thread while searching on the net. It was a great idea in 2010. So any fresh kickboxing matches people would like to see in 2013 ?
I'd love to see JP Soammes v Dylan Moran. That would be a cracker.
Or how about Aidan Brook v Sean Colliar be an interesting match up !
