I came on here hoping to discover some unknown pleasures but soon realised this thread was lacking in substance. Still, what else should one expect. :(

Joy Division was one of the greatest bands ever, and are way under-rated.

    So there.

Joy Division were good, but they were no Barnes & Barnes.

Love won't tear us apart, but listening to those cnuts just might.

I prefer my music to be sung by people who don't walk around all day with faces like slapped arses.

Misrable shower of creepy spoiled middle class twats who acted like they were forced to make music.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 539 ✭✭✭piby

I only found out recently that Joy Division became New Order after Ian Curtis's death! I'd been listening to them over the years as two completely unrelated bands. I know I know but in fariness I was only born in '87 Joy Division were long gone by then!!

    let's dance to joy division
    and celebrate the irony

Waddle chopped off his mullet before the semi-final v W.Germany. Result = he hit the post during the game and missed a peno during the shoot-out.

That mullet was the source of his power!

(btw, they had Waddle, Barnes, Lineker, Gazza and they could still only get to the semis. I think they're dreaming if they can think they can match or better that with this current bunch of donkeys.)

Ha, I used to love that song.

In the local Take-away where I grew up it was on the Video Jukebox and I used to play it on a loop when we went in, much to everyone's displeasure.

They weren't even the best band of the 80's.

Talking Heads were leagues ahead of them.

Heck - even OMD created better music than New Order.

I think Joy Division are vastly over rated. Same with Sonic Youth.

Thats the most preposterous thing I've ever heard

Talking Heads were past their best by 1981 - Remain in Light in the last great Heads album

Propaganda embody the 80s (until it all went pete tong.)

    You think so?

    Wait till you hear this.

I think even Huey Lewis and The fcuking News were better than New Order.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically.
The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

The 80's were generally a blip in musical decades anyway. No wonder the 90's looks so amazing next to it.

You can't be serious. The 90's were better than the 80's?

And Radiohead is your main reason for having that opinion?

What is it with dour, slash your wrists, self pitying "music" that makes people feel the need to declare it as the greatest.

Music made by people who weren't breastfed.

Reason number 2. The 90's far outclass the 80's.

Get your f*cking coat. I will not hear a bad word said about the Youth. They are like a good wine & get better with age.

    Recent Jools Holland appearance (drool)....

Can't stand Jools Holland though - he looks like an angry midget.
