do you think that any one serious about their fitness/diet should be teetotal??

if you go to the gym 4 times a week and then have a couple of pints at the weekend are you taking one step forward and two steps back?

When it comes to alcohol and fitness, less is best.

I personally have cut down a lot.I would normally go out every Sat nite and have about 6-7bottles before i go out and then about 6-7 pints throughout the rest of the nite.
Last weekend i had a total of 2pints and i havent drank any alcohol this weekend at all.Ive been like this pretty much for the last 7months.

Alcohol isnt the worst thing you could take but as long as calories in < calories out/used you are ok.

Going to the gym and drinking at the weekend, is better than not going and drinking.

Drink is defo my biggest downfall, most weekends are 3 days of drinking, really hinders everything i'm trying to do. Sadly, there isn't much else to do when abroad

It depends what your goals are really. I'll have a few scoops when I don't have a fight coming up. A little bit of what's bad is good for you. :) When I do have a fight coming up I'll stay off the sauce for sure but I think it's possible to be in very good nick and drinking regularly once you're not overdoing it.

Couple of pints? No problem IMO. Once you're not getting rat arsed several times a week I can't really see it impacting too much.

its not really about the carbs though, its more about the alcohol dehydrating you, which is the last thing you want when trying to build muscle

Alcohol has been proven to have any number of effects on muscle growth. Like everything else, i'd question how much it really effects the lay person!

Once you can make it too the gym and train, i think you'll be ok.

Plus os also about the calories in the alcohol that will mess up your intake, be it maintenance, deficit etc

I don't really drink anymore, saving an occasion. However when I do, I've swapped the pints for vodka, soda water and a small dash of lime.

TBH all the 'lads' slagged me unmercifully for a few days, then I got them all to try it and half of them now drink it as a pint alternative :D

Only problem is restricting yourself to 5/6 on a night out. Very hard to not play catch-up when your mates are lashing back pints for sport.

An added benefit is the complete erasure of hangovers, which is a revalation in itself!

    Ah well :o
