All genuine advice from solid players would be appreciated..... no BS

I'm off 12 at moment...18 this time last year..... play twice a week in competition, maybe 18 holes practice, range twice a week (min) and maybe 3 hours a week on short game.... lesson every 6 weeks Puregolf in leopardstown..read all Rotella's books.... tried pelz day school ( too light touch and not personal enough)...

My game is obviously a lot better than last year, better ball striker and putter... however, I'm still very inconsistent regards tempo and a consistent swing....

Any advice or tips to help me improve..... drills, playing lesson, more/less of certain practice?

a key problem I have is swing speed, trying to murder the ball everytime!!

    Any questions just fire....

Wow that's some routine you have there. Most of us would give our right arms to be able to dedicate that much time to our games each week.

Anyway....back to your question. If it's a slightly slower tempo you're looking for more awareness of your weight transition and connected-ness of your body and arms in the swing, you could do worse than to try one of these weighted trainers http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055925613.

It should help you to avoid a couple of the blowouts which I'm sure you probably have - mainly caused by drives which are either blocked out way right (never to be seen again), coupled by the odd pull-hook. Am I correct ?

from the psychology point of view. maybe re consider the way you think your way around the 18 holes. personally it helps me to think my way around in threes. so i play 6 x 3s. ive lost a 1.4 shots this year, cut to 10.7. i was terrible for thinking front and back nine and blowing it. another tactic i use is to forget shots/ points and just count my putts for the round. let the rest flow.
hope that is of some help :) btw congrats on your h cap reduction. ( jealous )

I'd drop one of those sessions on the range and do another couple of hours on your short game instead. Nothing will help your score as well as your short game. For every hour you work on your long game you should spend two (or even three) hours on your short game.

Hey Kace, thanks for getting back to me. I play 9 holes twice a week in morning before work (6.15 start!) and twice to range at lunch or way home from work.. putting/chipping either at home or at local course... have a f/t job and 2 kids so its a balancing act! have a net in backyard now which also helps work on swing....

I have one of those for grip mainly, might start using it more... re my bad shots..I suffer with fat shots and lefties due to casting but my pro and I have almost sorted that... driving a little erratic at moment I feel mainly due to poor tempo which leads to hitting ground first on drives (equals disaster)....

hey Curly, I think the mental side is real important. I am a numbers person so I always know where I stand (I cant help that)..... I try to play to my handicap so one over or one under level twos etc.. like to aim for 5 under and see how I get on.. maybe break it up over each 9.....

A real mental, issue with me is momentum and bad shots... if I start first 1/2 holes well I will fly along and be in a great mood and at ease with my game but one bad hole or a stupid three putt and I can lose it for 5 or more holes.. not bad tempered but go quiet, give out to myself and lose confidence.. once I lose my tempo its gone... I would love to have Goosen's persona on the course..guy is a rock..Els the same.. so cool.... I really need to sort this out..any ideas!!!

Couldn't agree more, its something I will do... this Summer will be focused on short game mainly... got a new GW and its great around green.... especially around my course s/g is critical.. tricky greens, slopes etc...

Could not agree more on working on short game. Its important to have solid long game but if you cant chip, pitch or putt you are going struggle so much.

The beauty of short game is that you dont need to be strong or flexable or whatever. You just need good touch and feel and can devlop that through practise and more practise
