Looking for Newtown Little in Rathfarnham

    Hi,

I am currently researching my family tree and I am curious about one thing. My great grandparents lived in a place called Newtown Little in Rathfarnham back in 1901, but I can find no trace of it on Google maps.

Has this place named changed? I was thinking that it might be now, Milltown, as during my research it said there was an old mill in Newtown Little, and I was putting the 'Mill' and 'Town' together to make Milltown, but am not sure of this at all, just guessing!

Is there anyone who may tell me where Newtown Little was and if there are any links to any photos of how it looked back in 1901 or thereabouts or any other information concerning it, would be of massive help.

    Thank you

There's a townland near to Rathfarnham named Newtown Little - see the townland database at www.seanruad.com The townlands and thier boundaries are still pretty much as they were back in the 1850s but are not usually shown for urban areas on modern google maps.

I'll see if I can find Newtown Little on the OSI historic map.

link to the tonwland of Newtown Little on the 1st Edition OSI map : http://ims0.osiemaps.ie/website/publicviewer/main.aspx#V1,715621,729472,6 (click historic or historic bw to see the older maps)

The area is to the east of Rathfarnham village and south of the River Dodder and includes the Rathgar bridge, but does not extend as far as Milltown.
