I'm going to a barbecue tonight and have just started a cutting back on junk food and carbs and have cut my portion sizes.

Can anyone give me advice on what I should and shouldn't eat?

In my opinion you should enjoy your bbq and have a little of everything you fancy. Eat a little something before you go (hearty bowl of soup or some oats) so that you aren't ravenous and end up binging. Keep your portions small to medium - if you are still hungry you can always have more, but if it's on your plate you'll probably eat it just because it's there. Just eat mindfully and enjoy every bite.

Drink a glass of water for every beer/glass of wine. And turn up the music and dance!

Eat the stuff that it is obvious what it is. Steak, chicken, baked veg, etc. Be wary of thing that is covered in breadcrumbs or has a long list of ingredients.
