How far would I go to survive? Well I am not alone in thinking that drinking your piss is not a big deal, but how much further would you go? I don't think I place enough value on my life to go to some of the lengths that others have endured. I think that if I were in Stalingrad or something like that I would have just killed myself, once the conscious had been extinguished there can be no more suffering, and you don't know any better when you're dead. In that sleep of death what dreams may come? I am willing to take punt and say there ain't a whole lot.

A load of bollix, if your life is on the line you'll do whatever it takes to survive. If I was in Stalingrad and got a handful of bullets it wouldn't be long until the guy with the gun had whatever's lying around handy stuck in the back of his head.

There are many documented cases of soldiers killing themselves, as well as people in survival situations. We are not all endowed with the same desire to perpetuate our existence.

I would have no problem doing it. I remember that episode; I race [marathon and ultra marathons] in the Sahara every year, so I have studied a certain amount of survival techniques. TBH depending on your situation there are better ways of doing it that the one he used. Not something you would want to do, bit if you have no choice.

If you were watching Ray Mears he'd show you the thing where you dig a hole and put plastic over it and somehow water forms on the underside of the plastic,but Bear Grylls is certainly a treat for the eyes,not great for survival techniques though,he just eats everything and does a few fancy jumps off cliffs and such.

Anyway,yeah I would,but like someone said,there's a lot of salt in it so it wouldnt do much good would it?

I presume blood. I have read numerous accounts were sailors who were on a raft or the like would kill a member and drink his blood, especially if said person had drank seawater and was effectively dead already. Besides you would run out of pee and it would keep getting more and more concentrated.

What about animal blood then? Granted probably not that abundant in the Sahara, but in general ? Riddled with infection or safe enough? Or just not applicable? Im getting prep material for my new show, Azureus Grylls, out on Discovery next season

One guy got lost during the MdS about 10 years ago; he was missing for five days no water. He did manage to kill a bird and get some blood from it. He was that dehydrated that he tried to kill himself by slicing his wrists. He awoke the next day, he was that dehydrated that the blood just clotted. I remember watching a documentary on it before I done the race.

Humans would never have developed this far if everyone had that attitude. And i dont think people dwell over these decisions very much when theyre actually put in the situation. I'd say when someone see's an opportunity to survive they take it regardless how unpalettable it is.

In other words survival is as much subconcious as it is concious. Its easy to sit here and say oh i could never drink my piss, but when a gun is put to your head you might just find your body disagreeing with your mind.

The whole drinking pee thing would seem a little silly, since it is mostly ammonia, uric acid, sodium and water...

Best thing to do would somehow find a way of evaporating the water out of the pee and drinking that...it'll taste pretty bad but then again, it'll keep you alive.

That is easy to do in a desert environment, once you have a spare water bottle.

There are many recorded incidents of sailors having survived months, drinking water and all their own pee.
