Thursday 10th June THIS is being sold, handy to have backup power for your iPhone and/or keep it charged if your are out and about all for €25 good value compared to the mophie juice pack and any other external power solutions that I've come across.

Does that thing have it's own battery too? So it's not just a solar cell - but a type of battery pack recharged by a solar cell?

    Interesting.

I think that's how they work, I have one at home that doesn't charge the iPhone unfortunately, got it in duty free a few years ago, but it stores power in its own internal battery so you can solar charge it fully in advance.

With Oxegen on the horizon this could be very handy. Nice spot OP.

problem is though these only work well in direct sunlight, ie no clouds. oxegen have charge stations you can use. 5euro for 3 hours. they take your phone, give you a ticket and you come back to pick it up when ready fully charged.

One of the lads here in work said that the outdoor festival charging set-up is a bit of a scam, no way do they leave your phone plugged in fully for 3 hours, I'd prefer to take my chances with the Aldi one, it's Li-on so it won't dissipate on it's own, so charge it in advance and it doesn't need direct sunlight (i'm open to correction on that) obviously it will charge much quicker if it's receiving bright direct light, but is will still charge on a dull day.

Duracell do something similar (although not solar powered)

On Amazon for £25 - on eBay for about €15 link

    Gizmodo review it here

Charges an iPhone up to about 50%

Not sure that is still enough to get through a full festival?

    Why wouldn't they?

I have a Solio Classic Which I fully charged my Touch with as well as my Nokia N95, I do need to get a new tip to charge my 3gs. They can be charged by solar or a mains adaptor
