    Hello everybody,

This my first post. Last Thursday I did my class one medical in the aeromedical center, everything went perfect apart from my eye exam. I do have 20-20 vision but i have a slight case of "strabismus". If you were to look at me you wouldn't even notice I have a slight turn in my left eye. The opthamologist told me to get my prescription from my local optician and she said there is a good chance the glasses may correct the problem.

I then went back to my local optician and had a talk with them and they said its touch and go it may not work. I really am gutted as I never even knew I had a problem its not even noticeable. If I had have known years ago I would have checked.

Just wondering has anybody had any similiar problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

yep happened to me as well Aisling did out a prescription for me,i went to the local specsavers got the glasses wore them for about six months went back did the the test and passed.

as for your local opticians i would trust the word of the AME over them i was even looking into getting laser eye done untill the AME told me that it would not work,im wearing glasses over two years now and at first thought i would have to wear big thick black rimmed frames(ala joe 90:D) the ones i got (quick silver) are rimless even when i started to wear them out i was drinking with a mate who only noticed them about an hour after i was in his company.(and it had nothing to do with drink:))

I went up to do my class one last month and they discovered a minor heart problem on the ECG, after further testing I went up the week after to have the problem sorted and they say it went well. All going well I could pass the class 1 in 6 months. Thinking now about doing the laser eye aswell because the eye doctor told me that if you get that done they won't pass you for 6mths after aswell. Anybody have it done or know of any potential problems with it from the point of view of the aeromedical?

i was told by the AME that laser eye surgery would not work on my self also the CAA AMS have failed people that have got laser eye surgery done.

I'm short sighted, nothing else wrong in that dept. Passed the eye exam ok. Donkey, would you be inclined not to get it done from what you've heard? If theres any great risk I wouldn't do it. I've an appointment in the mater this week to see about the laser surgery so I'll ask plenty questions, make sure they know I need to pass an aeromed!

Hey Guys ,I went for my class 1 medical last wedensday and the doc told me that i had mild colour blindness and that i wouldnot be able to get my medical as a result, she then told me that she wasnt 100% sure if it was a fail and that she would have to find out and get back to me the next day,one week on i am still waiting for a phone call to let me know if i failed or passed which i think is very bad form,I was wondering has anybody else gained a class 1 being colourblind??? i know in the uk you can still fly with colour blindness but only during the day.thanks
