Leinster 4x4 is holding an Open Day on Sunday June 27th 2010.

Booking is required by phoning 086 087 2272.

The cost is €20.00 per vehicle. The location is just south of Tinahely, Co. Wicklow in one of the forests leased from Coillte.

You must be at the meeting point by 09:00am to register and listen to the safety briefing.

Each participant will be expected to join an organised group. No wandering around alone is allowed in the interest of safety.

    Groups will be....

    Green laning with shiney vehicles
Green laning where the odd scratch won't bother you
    Intermeriate no winch required
    Advanced - winch required

Each group will be led by an experienced club member who knows the forest and the trails suitable for his/her particular group. Another club member takes up the tail end charlie position. Each group will be briefed before starting and there are normally regular stops to check that everyone is happy with what the group is doing. Everyone meets up at an agreed location for lunch and anyone can move to another group after lunch (in either direction) if they wish.

Do I risk excommunication if I bump a thread?

Nah, just don't make a habit of it! Hope you get a few takers, I'll be at Charleville though.

Thanks Sean. Doesn't seem to be many off roaders here or if there is they'll be all at "Mid Summer Madness". I might suggest to the committee that we don't clash next time. Is "Mid Summer Madness" always the last weekend in June?

Incidentally if anyone wants to come along there is no problem in just turning up on the day.

Breakfast of sea bass and strawberries for the first twenty to sign in!!!

Dredging this up a little bit but...

I decided a while back that mid next year I'm gonna need to swap out my completely impractical sports car for a "soft roader" for towing etc. Specifically I was thinking along the lines of a Freelander 2 due to prices, costs etc...

Anyway, I've always really liked off-roading. Was addicted to Eurosport's Truck Trials in the 90's as a kid, and I've done it twice with Tuff Terrains and another one, the name of which escapes me!

But I randomly found 4x4 leinster the other day and connected the dots between my future soft roader and the 4x4L Sundays. I was just wondering what the story is with using shiny road cars?

I wouldn't have any interest in simply driving 'country cart tracks' which Nissan Micras could do, and looks to be what basic Green Laning is, so what exactly is involved in the next step up? Is it something that would give a few inclines/declines/water hazards/slippy mud etc, but still allow you to wash your fake off-roader afterwards and have it in shiny condition!?

    Just curious...

We have spent a lot of time in preparing tracks for what you want. We had another open day recently and knew we had to cater for shineys. There are tracks that will allow you to go off the beaten track without any body damage but more challenging that your standard forest trails.

Come out for a day when you get your 4x4 (or before but plan ahead to make sure you get a seat) and have a look.

Have a word with Paudie on Leinster 4x4's forum regarding towing with a Freelander.

Great. I have a couple mates with Shinys too who might be interested, so i'll fill them in.

I'm unavailable every Sunday until late march with another "activity", and it will be Jun / July before I'll be changing motors, but i'll definately join the forum in the meantime and have a look around.

    Thanks for the info
