Maybe one of the rescues like dogstrust but your better off saving for one if ya cant afford a good one. If you get one now, chances are it wont be ready for this season anyway.

Try the ispca in wexford town they generally have a few springadors or similar stuff .
I've had a couple of dogs from them over the years and if you get them young enough they work out fairly well.
I got a springer X lab last year and she's working like a trooper.

    yellow

    yellow

Why not give him a try if he's a full lab .
I know several lads with yellow lab's and they would swear by them.

    Define working?
What does he do & not do??

80 quid would be a fair bargain if he's any good.

lol dont know why i put red setter:eek: because he's black and white :D
would that make him a english setter then?

emm we tried him in a pond yesterday with a dummy and he brought it back to us most of the time,i had him out today when he got a sent of something in the ditch he bolted throw and a pheasant flew up from the other side.i was recording it so i'll try and upload it.

most of the time he comes back when you call him, so i'm going to work on that. only problem is that he wont sit he just lies down instead, other then that i think he's a good dog.

Looks like a cross but sounds like its in him. You'll have to wait and see. i bought a trained dog. great dog, sticks on point but only thing is he's not a retriever. Working on it though. Hope it works out for ya bud

I'm not sure if it's a cross or not but thats all cemantics if he works for you. Start up you training now anyway. I wouldn't do muck retrieving til you know if he will actually set. By sounds of that pheasant he doesn't or doesn't yet.
Best of luck with him & keep us up to speed on the progress

well the more i bring him out the more i notice problems or maybe its my technique but sometimes he completely ignores me and does what he wants,
i brought him to a forrest today would anybody be able to tell me what i'm doing wrong? am i calling him to much or not strict enough? any help would be very much appreciated.

im no expert but would it be worth your while doing of bit of obedience with him in the yard and or garden, when you have a strong recall/hup on him then you could try him out and about the woods, maybe try use a 210 whistle instead of whistling and call him the whole time. . . im sure lads on here will help ya out. . . ;)

    TheIrishGuy,
I have a setter cross and an english pointer. I find the setter very headstrong. Obedient but very headstrong. TBH i had collies all my life which were easy to train to do anything.
My setter will retrieve goodo, sit, stay, heel, no problem, but like yours he will rarely come back when he gets a scent. Very headstrong, very loyal, but unfortunately bad on recall. Good normally but if he gets a smell......
Also very cute, if i have something in my hand he will sit thinking he will get a treat. Im working on him and hes improving. Needs a lot more work though. He a nice looking dog you have btw

i wouldnt start training a dog in a forest.......you cant see what he is doing ....get a couple of dummies a long lead ,wrap the dummies in birds wings and encourage the dog to set in the FIELD and when your dog is quartering and setting on the hidden dummies then and only then are you ready to bring him hunting,he will only break your heart otherwise.Ive seen setters that we thought were lost only to find them set solid on a phesant thats what can happen
