The player that will suddenly become the best player in the world after the WC

In 2008 Arshavin came from virtually nowhere to being linked with every club in Europe almost. This always seems to be the case at a big tournament. Anyone want to predict who it will be at this WC?

I'd guess Milos Krasic of Serbia or Luis Suarez of Uruguay. Hardly unknowns but not household names either

Mesut Ozil for Germany imo. Apparently Alexis Sanchez for Chile is really one to watch too. Hearing good things about Nicolas Lodeiro for Uruguay too. Looking forward to seeing who it'll be, always one of the best aspects of any WC

Mesut Özil will be the next big thing I reckon.

    Mesut Ozil for Germany imo.

I think that's a good shout, especially if the Germans go on another one of their mammoth tournament runs. He looks a special talent.

    Yeh agree on Ozil aswell...

    Also look out for
Gregory van der Wiel (RB from Holland)
    Nicolás Lodeiro (Midfield from Uruguay)
Angel Di Maria (Winger from the Argies)
    Simon Kjær (CB from Denmark)

Then again the true standout will be Nicklas Bendtner :)

    Freddy Adu?

    Besides Messi?

I think Suarez, Ozil and Kwadwo Asamoah will increase their rep vastly after the WC.

My shout is for Ozil, but no one will be a tap on Messi.

Maybe not best in the world but I reckon Milner will turn a few heads.

    Thierry Henry ;)

    He's the best basketball player.
    Leonardo Bonucci?

On the subject of ozil there are two candidates within the German squad who could also outshine him:

Sami Khedira - Who won the bundesliga on the final day of the season.
Marko Marin - Another player I really admire but hasn't really got the chance to shine on a big stage yet.

Alexis Sanchez from Chile is another one to look out for yeah.

Ive also heard that Serbia have a few handy young players but I cant remember their names let alone spell them.

Xherdan Shaquiri a late addition to the Swiss team is another to watch out for.

Theres others I could name but these seem to be the best bet for players to come out of 'nowhere' and turn into a household name.

came into the thread to mention him. Have heard very good things about Toni Kroos too but never seen him play.

I think Vela will have a big tournament for Mexico if he remembers to bring his passport.

Someone mentioned Kevin Doyle in relation to the Rafa gone thread, henceforth Kevin Doyle shall be uttered in the tone "Matt Damon".

    On a sidenote...
I can't believe all the actual talent we have this time. Yippee. After all those years where we had mostly very fit donkeys.
Probably go out early now :o

I think it's also a bonus to have all your squad coming from the Bundesliga meaning you'll be more of a surprise package than if they played in any of the big 3 leagues.

Because suarez will be against top class defenders Instead of Dutch league defenders I think he could really shine as people see how good he is or he could be terrible :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

I can really see Van Persie do a "Van Basten '88".
Half year on the side lines, just fit in time for the WC.

Well.. at least i hope he will. :D

    Chicharito.

I'd say Suarez and Di Maria could make big names for themselves.

Not an unknown, but I have a feeling that Nani will have a great tournament and be the best player for Portugal, probably other than Ronaldo, but you'd never know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,645 ✭✭✭Luap

I think Nani will shine in the Wc. Has showed some of his brilliance in the prem, I think if he has a good Wc his could become the next best thing.

Cacau if he gets to play enough. I think he should start for Germany.

Scored a couple off the bench in the pre-world cup friendlies.

i am going to go for lucio. Ok he is around awhile and already has a name for himself, but with brazil being more functional this year he could be a key player for them.

Also it is usually the experienced players that shine in this competition

Maybe Suazo for Honduras, though he is not that young!

    Nikola Zidic Serbian Striker 6'8"

Martin Parlemo. I know he is 36 but he could spring a surprise or two as long as Argentina keep him away from taking penalties.

    P*sstake shurly?

Have you seen the other 5 strikers Argentina have?

Theres a young Serb on Inter's books whos meant to be a bit special.

And van der Wiel at right back for Holland is a great prospect.

Surprised no one has mentioned Torres,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,900 ✭✭✭Eire-Dearg

Angel di Maria - enough said.

    Others I'd watch out for
    - Mesut Ozil
    - Tae Se
    - Marek Hamsik
    - Alexis Sanchez
    - Gary Medel
    - Humberto Suazo (if fit)
    - Luis Suarez

I'd be surprised to see Torres get out of Villa's shadow at the WC.
