Hi all I posted here before about constipation and I am wondering if its linked to a high protein diet and if it is what carbs help or if vegetables help or is high protein just bad for constipation overall??

As of late I have been eating more carbs (bread, rice, crackers) and I find I am going to the toilet more, getting no cramps and no serious energy slumps!

Thanks a million for the advice :D

Well eating lots of meat definately doesn't help in the frequency department, but you should be ok eating normal amounts if you're eating enough fruit and veg aswell. Ideally you should get the bulk of your fibre from veg, then fruit and then wholegrains. I'd imagine you're just increasing the overall amount of fibre in your diet by eating more bread etc but it would be better if you cut them down and ate more fruit and veg (or beans and lentils if they don't bother your tummy) instead really and you should see the same effects. You might find a smoothie helps you get extra fibre into your day. Ground flax seed can have a very strong laxative effect too so add that to salads, soups, fruit dishes etc to really get things moving.
