Hey guys, what are your thoughts on the next liverpool Gaffa. Paddy power are already offering odds. I took Pellegrino at 14-1. I believe the liverpool backroom staff are all spanish and would it might cost a small fortune to sack them all, so in comes Pellegrino who has a handle on spanish. He'd also be up for the Job id say. 14-1 is quite tasty

Interesting to see Kenny favourite with some firms, although he did seem to be hanging around Anfield alot more last season!

i think he was hanging around because he was appointed an ambassador for the club last year or something to that effect

Put a fiver on Frank Rijkaard @ 25/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,133 ✭✭✭hawaii501

I think it will be Roy Hodgson as the Fulham chairman said he wouldn't stop him leaving if it's to a 'big' club.

O'Neill or McLeish (33/1) will be the new manager imo.

Hodgson would be my big fancy, he's the obvious choice but it all depends on Purslow.

Mark Hughes would be my best outsider @ 25/1.

I've covered foreigners on my blog but I think they will go favour a British/ Irish manager this time and another who I forgot to mention is John Toshak @ 100/1 (PP).

Inside info couple of weeks ago said M O Neill pretty much has the job - 11/4 looks good value

Lifetime Pool supporter - will NOT BE HAPPY if Hodgson gets the job

I would prefer Hodgson to O' Neill, I think he is better manager and has managed big teams before so has more experience at top level while O Neill has only managed Celtic.

I will NOT BE HAPPY if MON gets the job! Hiddink would be the most ideal choice but cheaper option has to be Hodgson, thats why I think hel get the chance

does a temp manager count with the bookies? the most likely scenario is Dalgish & Sammy Lee until the new owners come in...

    Pelegrino a useless fool ?

No offence, but that post is clueless.

No other manager in Madrids history has had a better win ratio.

Yeah, what a useless fool

SSN said 'King Kenny' will probably appointed in a temporary capacity.
Which is strange considering its the close season

I think some people are confusing Mauricio Pelligrino with Manuel Pelligrini.

Yep pelligrino (the Liverpool coach) is a useless fool. That Pellligrini fellow is alrite though :pac:

Bt the time this market has settled they will have been
    (A) At least 6 favs - most of them odds on at some stage
    (B) The manager appointed in most of these markets a lot of time doesn't feature in the initial betting lists.
    (C) Bookies make a fortune out of these markets with so many choices.

Madrid ex coach Im talking about. Spelling wrong Id imagine :p

I've backed Pelligrini and Rijkaard, 20 and 22s. Just a few quid to have an interest in it. Manager markets are generally hard to call.

Mark Hughes would be my best outsider @ 25/1.

Would they dare to appoint a former Man Utd legend as Liverpool manager ?

Anythings possible these days if michael owen can move to united, then hughes to liverpool is a possibility

Heres one for ye... Michael Laudrup @ 40/1;). If he was boss and got the team playing like he did as a player, that would make one hell of a football team. Its a novelty bet, but it could be anyone...

They wouldn't be able to afford O'Neill. Whoever takes over Liverpool will already be unattached or free to leave their club. It won't be Hodgson either I'd say, Although he'd be ideal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭Johnny_the_fox

I put my money (a whole 50p) on Lippi, simply because he is out of a job after world cup.

O'Neill is on a rolling contract (season to season I think), there wouldn't be much compensation needed

I saying that I don't see him getting the gig

I think Pelligrini is a good fit and I like the suggestion of Laudrup above, he is under the radar and could do a good job

What are the odds for Fabio Cappello? Might but a few quid on him if they are any use.

They actually mixed the 2 up early on on oddschecker. They had Mauricio Pelligrino in at 14's and the like. I was wondering.....

what about kevin keegan @ 100/1:eek:

Liverpool legend would go down well with d fans

would find it very hard to believe MON expects to be at AV for very long and hasnt got a get out clause

I'd expect the opposite. He's there for the long haul assuming the owner gives him the money he needs to improve the team again. He's not what Liverpool need anyways, He's an average manager.

Wouldn't go down well with this fan.

I'm surprised Ranieri hasn't been mentioned(he's not even listed)

Looking at the list on PP and Sky Bet, Slaven Bilic at 25/1 would be a good outside bet.

Realstically its between MON, Hodgson and possibly Hiddink

  • Moderators Posts: 8,751 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Hiddink has already turned down Inter and has said he won't break his Turkey contract. Pity, As he would be ideal for Liverpool but I don't see any top notch manager wanting to take over a club with farcical owners and a touted £5m "war-chest". :pac:

Kenny daglish has announched he would be interested in taking the position!
Considering he has 50% of the say in who gets it, its all over before it even started!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭amiable

Lippi is 66/1 and he's unemployed after the World Cup.
Hard to tell anyway cos i don't think they'll appoint anyone til the ownership is sorted out. What top manager would take it knowing they could be sacked when new owners take over and want their own man in there

what do u mean did u ever c his c.v,
his learned his trade in the lower divisions and worked his way up, never had a really bad record anywhere, DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Funnily enough he has never sent me his C.V, If he did I doubt I'd consider him good enough to manage Liverpool. He's a slightly above average manager at best. A couple of league cups and three SPL titles isn't that special at all.

Do my homework ?. Don't make me laugh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭Devastator

Everyone seems to be forgetting Liverpool's financial position is AWFUL!
The planks in charge are only putting up £5m for transfer's with anything from player sales 'supposedly' put back in for new players....but Rafa was never gave back money to re-invest so why should anything change.

Therefore, no 'big name' manager will be taking over Liverpool, we're a poision chalice at the minute and until we have new owners any employed manager in a comfortable position would be NUTS to leave and join us and anyone unemployed know it's not an ideal choice.

Ideally for me, King Kenny to take over for a season or two. He'll be able to keep Gerrard at the club, and if Stevie stays Torres(maybe Masch and Yossi) will be convinced to stay aswell for at least a season.

A manager who won the La Liga twice, Managing to break the Mardid & Barcelona dominance twice, A Uefa Cup winner also. Benitez was a good manager, Far better than O'Neill. He just couldn't do much since those idiots arrived at the club.

i dont rate managers by what they win its what they do with the resources they have. imho no matter who liverpool bring in nothing will change until them owners go.
my point was off topic which i all ready apoligised for i was defending o neill because he has done good things with limited resources wherever he was managing

Aston Villa were the worlds 3rd highest spenders last season, only behind City and Real madrid, hardly limited resources at Villa.

Cant find one now, but its 100% that, net spend, in the last 3 years, only Real Madrid and Man City have spent more in world football than Villa.

So the merits or otherwise of the previous manager have no place here

Please get back to talking about who you think is the best value in the race for the new manager

And Lippi @ 66/1 looks value to me but i have a sneaky feeling they'll go for a British/Irish manager this time after 2 foreign managers
