Blessington lake

Hi all, is it ok to paddle solo around blessing lake? I live quite close to the lake and am getting a sit in touring kayak to build up my fitness levels as I used to white water (very badly:o) when I was in my twenties, but I was fit, and now I'm in my late thirties I have a little more weight and the fitness levels are way down (too much coffee and desk jobs). Anyway, where around the lake is the best place to launch from?

I'm pretty sure that you need a permit from the ESB to even kayak on the lake, as it's a reservoir owned by the ESB.

Yep, you do, but I hear they are quite good at giving then out.

YEP had one couple of years back esb in clare are the one to contact about 25 euro

When is the permit you got valid up to - the end of the boating season this year ?

Yup, end of September.

Cool. I have a friend in the ESB who is trying to get them to do away with the permits, but I don't think it will be this year. Enjoy Blessingtion!
