Can anyone explain what the traffic lights at the end of the slip rd on the northbound M1 on ramp at Santry are for? The were red earlier and traffic was backed up to the Swords Rd/Coolock lane junction.

To allow traffic from the tunnel to flow if it gets congested

Just to be pedantic, it's the M50, not the M1 anymore. The M50 now runs from Dublin Port, through DPT, up to the old M1/M50 roundabout and around the old M1. The M1 now runs from the old M1/M50 roundabout.

The lights are typically used when there's an incident in the tunnel and they want to clear it as quickly as possible.
