Does anyone know if its usual policy to get your ncb cancelled/lose any benefits if you start to make a claim but dont follow through with it

The car was broken into last year, not much damage but I still rang up the insurace co. and let them know, I didnt however go through with the claim as it was all fixed for free when I got the car serviced

Its time to renew and my ncb is now all but non existant

Did they send you out a cheque and you didn't follow through or what stage did it get to?

Phone them, has too be an error in their system.

If you withdrew the claim with no payments having been made (including possibly the costs of a motor assessor sent by insurer to inspect the vehicle) then your NCB should be unaffected.

If they say they are correct, find out why and post back here - there precise reason and we will advice you.

Best thing is to notify them in writing that you want the 'claim' cancelled/closed.

Call them about a week after sending them the letter, and ask them to send you out a new 'proof on NCB'.

This happened to me last year.
My car was stolen - luckely I got it back after 6 weeks with no damage.
A few month later when it came to renewel time my NCB was gone, even though I had notified them in writing to cancell/close the claim.

I had to go to their offices to get it sorted, but did get my NCB back.

Defo a glitch on their end.Unless a claim is followed through with, paid out on and closed it shouldnt effect your NCB.

In fact,Im 99.9% sure even if there is an outstanding claim on your policy it shouldnt effect your NCB at renewal.

Eg claim made in January 10 with a renewal in May 10,claim still outstanding at renewal date.NCB should still be in place as the claim is outstanding.
