Im considering purchasing this hydration pack. It seems to be the best on the market for ultra marathons from what I've read.

There is probably nowhere in Dublin Id be able to buy it?

I also cant seem to find anywhere in the UK selling it online.

Any alternative hydration pack recommendations? with about 1.5 to 2 liters and space for maybe a thermal top some energy bars?

    Cheers

Diabhal, what type of Ultra events are you considering entering?

I experimented with most of the common hydration packs and the best I found was this one.

It may be personal preference but I find it a lot more comfortable if you carry the weight at your waist and have your back free

This will only carry 1.2 litres of water but that is plenty if you have a chance to top up on route which is true for most off-road events.

For a road race, I would not carry any pack at all and rely on drink stations. Every ounce you have to carry, makes a difference for ultra running.

    Cheers for the info Mithril,

Im running the GrandDuc in the French alps at the end of the month. Ive used a previous model of this CamelBak waist pack in the past for a 100 miler. It was ok but found it moved about a bit when full (1.3 liter capacity).
A waist pack would probably be a good call, I used a cheap enough hydration backpack in a previous ultra and it was a pain in the ass.

Try Wheelworx in Liffey Valley Retail Park. They have a number of different camelbaks in stock.

If you're interested, I have an unused OMM i-drate (http://www.racelite.com/shop:showarticle:OMM_i_Drate_12L) backpack that I'm planning to sell. PM me for details.

Make sure you post a report here afterwards. I am really interested in how you get along. I hope to give the shorter UTMB event a shot next year but I would not be at that level yet.

@Stark- Thanks for the offer, Im going to go for the Solomon waist bottle holder Mithril suggested.

@Mithril, no worries ill give an update after the run. Regarding the UTMB I tried to get into it via a lottery for 2010 (the longer one). I wasnt lucky but am guaranteed a place summer 2011.
I reckon that if you would have the fitness for the shorter one you would be able to complete the longer one.
Anyway if you decide to enter and are lucky in the lottery entry I might see you there 2011.

I look forward to the update as well. Best of luck with it. If my feet ever recover I'm hoping to do UTMB.
