The Taoiseach has said there will be 'serious consequences' if any harm comes to the Irish citizens being detained in Israel for their part in the Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

I am simply wondering what serious consequences can be imposed by our bankrupt nation on a country that has between 200 & 300 nuclear weapons and close on 400 F15/16's (important facts to note before one goes sabre rattling)

Cowen having bankrupted the country has now gone renegade and potentially invited nuclear Armageddon upon us..

I must have missed the memo re our status as a regional super power capable of bluster and clap trap...

He wasn't referring to physical force.

There can be other kinds of repercussions besides going to war with a country.

Serious consequences are not going to be coming from Ireland as Ireland hasn't got the capacity. A Boycott is purely symbolic.

Israel hold the UN in contempt

The USA veto Security Council actions against Israel

Cowen is clutching, once again we see how little he knows about ANYTHING

Israel couldn't give two flying ****s about us.

Not a hope in hell Cowen has "invited nuclear Armageddon upon us.."

You don't happen to work for The Star / The Sun / Any other sensationalist production?

if you want to quote use the full quote - even the Star would be that professional

    now, with respect to Clowen

the important point of my post is:

What is Clowen actually going to do? What are his options?

The way I see it, Clowen just mouthed off, now he needs to explain his thoughts, if he cant, he shouldnt be in The Taoiseachs Office

My post is deliberately tongue in cheek (I can see it went over the heads of the naive)
