    Hi all

I'm new here so I apologise if I make any mistakes,

I'm looking to buy a second hand car, and have spotted 2 beautiful cars, one 05 and one 07 both with around 50k on clock. and priced between €8k and €9k. Just about to go have another look and a friend just told me the dealer is hooky?
I don't know if I can give a name but it's on Ballymount rd.

How could I tell if they're clocked or cut and shuts which is what i'm being told. Love both cars but I've the safety of 2 kiddies to think about??

Any advice or help welcome and appreciated

Cut and shuts are not too common these days, are they Irish cars or imports ?

If you feel put off then walk away and find another dealer,
Plenty of S/H cars out there ;)

Avoid car dealers around the Ballymount Road, quite a few of them are fly-by-night operators. In fact, avoid any car dealers who operate out of a portakabin. That's not a guarantee of quality, but it should help.

cartell.ie motorcheck.ie to do a history check on the car. You need the chassis number and possibly the NCT cert number to check the mileage on these sites.
cut and shut are two halves of different cars welded together to make a shiny death trap.
The AA do car mechanical inspections.
With cars its still caveat emptor. Regardless of what consumer protection is there make this your rule.
If a deal is too good to be true, it is.
Keep your wits about you, don't be rushed and don't fall in love with a car. There's always another car out there.

Your wiping out a huge proportion of dealers there.

If available have a look at the service history and use that against the milage and other things like Timing belt etc.

Or like someone already said... AA inspection.
