I see that Aldi have a 32" full HD Tv for sale this Thursday 3rd June.

    http://www.aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_13071.htm

At 359.99 it seems to be good enough value and it seems to have enough connectors:D-HDMI, Scart, Composite, Component, S-video. . . etc.
I'm wondering if it has an analogue tuner though, and will it work with the Mpeg4 digital tv in Ireland.
I'm thinking of getting one to use it with my PS3 or something. Mightn't be worth it if I cant get any telly on it though:eek:.

Looks fine for the money, as usual though, the almost certain lack of an mpeg4 4 dtt tuner os the only real put off, also full hd is still fairly overkill at 32", any incr5ease in picture quality will only be at very close distance to the set

It mentions a USB slot to attach storage for pausing and recording TV - how does that work and would it work for anything being shown (eg can you record your XBox game)?

I guess its an alright TV for those looking for the lowest price. You can get way better ones nowadays for a little more. I personally wouldn't purchase it. It hasn't got the highest specs , such as a low 3000:1 contrast ratio and its only a 50 hertz frequency. And no Optical out for surround. But It does come with a 3 year warranty. Say its a good option for people looking for a TV for their bedroom or the kitchen.

Seems pretty decent alright, I'm tempted. However, I spotted a 32" LG (model: 32LH200) in Xtravsion the other day for 379 euro, and it gets some great reviews on Amazon etc. Any teccie types out there who could say which is better? I'm not a gamer, so my personal priorities would be good sound, picture quality, long-lasting etc., with a few bells and whistles such as double scarts or USB.

The most probable way it would do this is when you click pause it starts recording onto the usb stick, and plays it back when you click play.
But this would probably be no good for recording X-box, even if it did work with it, as it would freeze your screen when you click pause and you couldn't see your gameplay. It would play it back again when you click play, but . . SERIOUS lag:D

My uncle bought one of these nearly 2 weeks ago and I had a look at it last week... and both of us were very disappointed.

So much so that he boxed it up and brought it back for a refund and went back to using his old 25"ish crappy old non-widescreen CRT.

Allbeit, the LCD was hooked up via scart to the latest NTL stb (neither of which would aid in quality) but the picture looked absolutely awful.
It was literally light and day between his old CRT hooked up with scart to the NTL box to the LCD with scart/NTL stb.

I tried tweaking the display settings for sharpness/color and at no point did it look any good.

Might look better with Sky, not sure... but the image clarity was pretty awful with NTL.

I got a 32" tv in aldi a while back and was really disappointed with the picture quality. It wasnt great with the normal aerial and was poor with the PS3 and Xbox 360 also. Took it back and bought a LG which was much better in every aspect of picture

Yep sounds like you had the same experience myself and my uncle did. :/

was in aldi today and seen that this tv has freeview. although i know it is for the uk network and i think its missing mpeg4 for the irish digital when it comes out. would this still pick up channels or is a dish required?

Got this LG http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5295683/Trail/searchtext%3ELG+32.htm this week.

The model had been substituted with a LG 32LF7700 which has a built in freesat hd tuner and is mpeg 4 capable.

Absolutely - Lidl/Aldi electronics have a terrible failure rate.

Without going into a few examples, I completely agree with this statement. Absolutely no electrical items Ive bought in Aldi/Lidl over the years are still working, with the exception of an airbed pump !!! Regardless of price , I'll never buy electrics from them again

i've bought a few electronics from them and they're the best ones i've ever bought. i bought a DVD player and mp3 player from lidl and aldi about 6 years ago, and they're running better than ever.
dunno about tvs or that, but i'd go back for electronics.

The big plus with buying from them is the 3 year no quibble warranty.

    Not for me they haven't!
    Absolute nonsense.

+1 on that statement, been buying cheap Lidl and Aldi electronics/gear a like over the years, were they mightn't have the sleekness of say LG's, Sony's or Samsung's, nothing has ever broken on me!

SCART is your problem, HDMI is a must with digital LCD TVs

correct, SCART is old hat, to be confined to the history museums along with vhs and betamax
