If you get your car serviced, where do you bring your car and what car do you own?

And state reasons why you use that particular garage/mechanic.

I would love to know why garages charge so much and why some people dont mind paying them, as opposed to going to an independent garage/mechanic that charges way cheaper

Well, firstly I own an Alfa Romeo.

As we all know, Alfa Romeo doesn't score well in the dealer department. Most tell ya to f£ck off, even though you're paying their wages. Anyway that's another rant

I use a mechanic because he's an expert, really honest advice, and a gent to work with.

I use a main dealer for modern cars - fsh and all that. It's decent value too.

I service the classic car myself - and it's good fun.

I use the dealership because the service manager lives close by and he collects my car and leaves me one to drive while mines being serviced and it's not too expensive either. The fact I don't have to leave the house is worth it for me.

To add my tuppence. Usually brought my car to local mechanic and decided to bring it to the stealership just once to see how it went. Turned out they ripped me off - when I should have gone to local mechanic.

Since I have a new car, and although not due a service for another while, I was wondering if it will be cheaper and better to go to dealer. Henry Ford you know about the Fords - maybe you can say?

Otherwise I will bring it to the local lad.

Previous 3 cars were main dealer, current car have serviced it myself 3 times and its going strong. Last visit to a main dealer when they fitted new wipers when they were not required and charged double retail price along with charging for a windsreen fluid topup despite it being full led me to question was any checks actually being done on fluid levels. I picked up myself a Haynes manual and so far touch wood no problems.

I use the main dealership where I bought the car. They're easy to deal with, they don't charge the earth, and the car's still under warranty.

Normal servicing I do myself. If it's something more serious like a clutch or timing belt or whatever, I take it to an indy.

If I had a new car that was still under warranty, I'd probably take it to the dealership.

On the plus side I got my car serviced recently at the main dealer for €170. Car is 4 years old but had a full main dealer service history, for €170 I thought it was worth going to them and it continues the main dealer service history.

Now the negatives, car needs two new front wishbones, got a price off the main dealer but thought it was expensive so asked them for a discount, they promised to get back to me, two calls later to them and still no return call with an improved price. Found this to be very poor customer service and probably would bother with them again.

My local indy didn't want to touch the car as "Volvos are complicated" so I'm done with him too. I have found another recommended indy who is now doing the work for me next week. I hope to build up a good repore with him and let him look after my cars from now on.

    BMW

Will be getting it done in a main dealer for the dealer FSH and the discounted service add on option the previous owner bought with it. Also got a €150 quid voucher off BMW for servicing recently.

Do you think if you had gone to local indy - they would say you need to change the front wishbones?

Any mechanic can stamp the book for you, unless you have a warranty I'd run a mile from any dealership..

I do have a warranty, and the main dealer service costs about €150 incl.

    Hard to beat.
