I only use the internet for general surfing, banking online, e-mail etc and I have a 10 Gb monthly limit with Vodafone. I was jsut wondering how long would you have to spend online say on a adialy basis to reach or exceed this limit which of course I hope to avoid so i don't have to pay the extra charges.

    Cheers

I doubt it very much you would ever use the 10Gb per month if you are just emailing, surfing and banking online. I do all the above on my iphone - and do spend quite a bit on it every day, and never went past the 2Gb allowance that O2 used to have. Even when using wunderadio ... never went above the 1.5 Gb per month.

    Relax ... you'll be fine!

The amount of time you spend online is irrelevant, it's all about what you're doing while there. Unless you're downloading big files (iso images, movies or TV shows, etc) then you're not going to go over that limit. Excessive Youtube usage could push you to the limit, but that would be rare.

To put it in simple numbers, 3.6Mbps is about 1.6GBytes per hour, if you could sustain that speed (very unlikely on 3G), and you would use your 10GB in just over 6 hours.

10GB is maybe 3 or 4 HD movies downloaded on Xbox live, for example, but you're not going to be doing this. No one should use mobile Internet access for that kind of thing.

You can check your usage on a daily basis in your online Vodafone account. Look back on past usage, and you'll see how much you've been using.

unless you watch a good lot of youtube videos etc you most likely will never go over the limit it all depends on what kinda content you use online if its jsut basic web browsing etc i wouldnt worry to much about it my 5GB o2 allowance always last's me for the month

You know what the limit is, as it's not hidden by Vodafone or anything. If you want to go watching high quality video then obviously you're going to use up your cap quite quickly. Be not impressed with yourself before you blame the ISP.

Unimpressed with me as well i guess - as i hurtled headlong into changing from Pay as you go - to bill pay for the first time ever - for the sake of a free dongle, which i was told would perform better. I never had any problems with limits under previous arrangement - 20 euro a month, slow but .... now for a marginally better speed I get to use it for one week out of every month. Thankfully, I run this laptop off Eircom home broadband mainly - hte dongle was for nightshifts at work and I'll have to cope without until i find some way out of this arrangement. Live and learn I guess. Not much ''bang for your buck with vodafone''.

In any case ... panic over. I've just read on here that this is not actually a message pertaining to my limit at all - is some sort of software thingy that does not apply. So when I get a chance I'll be actually registering and having a look at my account settings etc.

It would be unusual for the modem to make any difference. All the networks promise great things with the new modems, but it's 99.9% unlikely to do anything for you.

Open the Mobile Connect panel, go to View Usage, and you can set the limit. This goes on calendar months too, which will not be the same as your billing period, so set the limit here to something large so that it won't annoy you in future.

    I have an 02 dongle with 10GB.

I don't download anything using it (college internet) :D

I use it mainly for 1-2 hours webcam per night and instant messaging, a bit of browsing etc.

I use around 4GB at max per month.

However I only need it 5 nights per week because I go home at weekends and use that internet :p

As long as your not downloading heavy amounts of music and movies you will be fine.

    Again check your usage regularly.
