The yellow engine warning light comes on every few weeks on the car (focus 2002). If i leave it turned off for a while (few hours) it often goes off and isnt seen again for a few weeks. I think it might only come on when car has been driven for several hours. Any ideas what will cause this and can i bring it and get computer checked even if light isnt currently on.

Once the light has come on, a trouble code will have been set in the ecu. So the answer is yes you can take and get it scanned even though the light is not on.
Its not possible to say what it is without at least having the trouble code. Coils can give trouble in these. That would be one possibility, although engine will be misfiring with this problem.

As already said before it can be any number of electronic malfunctions from something trivial like a lamba sensor to something more serious.

Cost is around the €50 euro region to get a diagnostics done which will tell the mechanic what's wrong unless you have a friend who has the equipment ;)

Had one of these an 02 tdci and the engine management light used come on every few months. Was a bit concerned at first but took it to main dealer for a service and spoke to the mechanic and he told me this was a regular occurence on them and not to worry unless it stayed on. Also found that changing the fuel filter seemed to help.:p
