    Hi there,
Im having some problems booting XP. The logo and blue progress bar appears but then I just get a blank screen.
I tried rebooting, and I gotin a couple of times.
I ran Malwarebytes and AVG but both found nothing.
When I tried booting the machine today I got the same problem.
    Virus?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Have you recently installed any new hardware / software?

If not and this just started of its own accord, the most likely explanation is either HD failure or malware infestation.

Have you tried booting from a CD or USB key? Have you tried booting into a different OS (e.g. ubuntu or puppylinux?)

If CD or USB booting works fine and there are no issues when you get the PC running (i.e. all your malware checks come back negative) then it's most likely a hard drive issue. Try DBAN on the HD and a complete rebuild. If that doesn't work, then just get a new HD and swap it out for the old one.

However if you can't boot from a USB or CD you've got bigger problems. I would be unsure how to progress, but loading something like SuperGRUB would be my next step.

Check if these work and post back here to let us know.

Press F8 when windows starts up to get bootup menu and then pick "Last Known Good Configuration".

    Hi there,
I've been messing around with a few things so there is a bit of new software.

I ran CHKDSK and it reported a couple of errors I tried to fix it, but I keep getting the same problems. Index issues mostly.
I've ran AVG (bought version) and Malwarebytes (free version) and nothing is reported back.
I tried booting from the XP disk and into the Recovery console, then when I reboot I can get back into Windows after no problems.

    What are DBAN and SupberGrub?
