I think this is a decent price. Its €39.99 in Aldi stores from thursday onwards - Offer Page ---- New Link
Three Tier Black Glass TV Stand with painted black finish legs, polished round shelves made from toughened safety glass. Features cable management and no tools are needed for assembly, instructions are provided. Maximum load 60kg, will hold TVs up to 42". Dimensions: 80 x 40 x 50.5cm (W x D x H).

Similar stands online are a good bit dearer. I got one in a B&M a few months back, and think it was around €90 or so. Ok its nicer than this one, but is over half the price!

Yeah it looks well. Good value when you consider these are about €100 in some places. Although its just a couple of sheets of glass and a few metal tubes thats all they're worth.

I was looking at the D.I.D site, and saw similar for €139!

    Still stuck on tiger prices

... yeah agreed they're a rip-off, equivalent PowerCity one is more than double the price. I wouldn't mind but they're all self-assembly too, talk about money for old rope!

Might pick one of these up for our new TV. I bought a 40'' Sony Bravia in November 2008 and it came with a free stand just like the Aldi one. The one in the post above was the one I got, was priced at €249.99 .

i have a 42" tv,would this be a bit dodgy to get.Im afraid it would be strong enough to support it,or the length of the stand will be too small

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭BlackWizard

I paid 89 euro for a stand like this from PC World only a few days ago

The advert says it suits up to 42" TVs. Just bring it back if you dont like it.

Just looked at these at the weekend SO glad I didnt pick anything up - from the picture there doesnt seem to be a huge difference from what I saw on offer well not one that could justify some of the price differences anyway

Might use some of the camping gear I previously got in Aldi to make sure I secure one of these stands!!!

I dont get the whole max 42" thing, it says it can support up to 60kg and a 42" tv would be 30kg max, so you should be absolutely fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,627 ✭✭✭Fol20

Just checked how long 80cm is compared to my tv,the stand looks like its a bit too small for a 42".the sides would be sticking out a good bit

Just bought one in tesco coonagh reduced from €138 to €31.38.
Looks same as lidl one except clear glass.

It depends on how you feel about this - as another poster pointed out the stand is more than able to handle the weight. I have a very similar stand (I think advertised as suitable up to 38") with my 42" TV on it - I'm very happy with the way it works, but the TV is wider than the stand which might be off putting to some people.

A rather grainny camera phone shot, but it might help explain.

If the TV is wider than the stand then surely it just makes the TV look even bigger...people might think you got a 50" !

    look bigger

Some people say it's the width that counts.

Those people usually have small remotes though :pac:

You managed to get up and queue early, assemble a tv stand, and fall at the last hurdle forgetting to switch on the flash!

I strolled into Aldi in Liffey Valley at about 11 and picked one up, there were loads there...

Looks perfect with a 32" TV on it:

Basically it's the sme as he Aldi, but clear glass instead of black.

Heh, it seems to be. I assume he uses the TV as monitor - perhaps it's used as HTPC.

I'm curious as to why he's using the stand back-to-front though in the corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 677 ✭✭✭M450

Haha yeah it is backwards!! Didn't even realise it, I like the look of it that way anyway...

Yeah it's an old laptop with a cracked screen so I just took it off. Running Boxee on it which is great! FWorks perfectly with a Windows Media centre remote, even turning it off/on. Only problem is it stopped recognising the wifi card recently

I dont think it is backward, otherwise the cable tidy plates would be at the front........unless you just left them out altogether

I have the eact same stand - ( cost over 100 sterling couple of months ago ) except its the other way around.

I think the idea that the back is narrower than the front is so it fits nicely into the corner of the room.

So it does appear to be 'backwards'

To be honest though it makes very little difference

( Love that laptop with no screen setup - like something out of Wargames :D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 677 ✭✭✭M450

You can put the cable tidy part on wherever you like, its just fixed in place using rubber screws that clamp down on the glass, pretty nifty.

I think the laptops for the bin now... after all it has had a few falls back in its day... think I'll get an acer revo to replace it.

Keep in mind what some of the earlier posters said about the size of the stand compared with the size of the tv.

Its 80cm wide which is about the same width as a 32 inch tv. Even though the ad says it will support up to 42 inch, it might look a bit odd if tv is much wider than stand.

Ah fair play to ye Davy.

Was reading through this and thinking... that could come in handy... then I checked the dates and thought... "what motherf#$% has gotten my hopes up for nothing...!" :)

I got mine about a year ago...it's still standing :) Can't go wrong for 40 quid.
