Paint Damaged. How much & where to get fixed

A few of my friends thought it would be hilarious to put a traffic cone of the roof and the bonnet of the car on saturday night. As a result of the gravel on the base on them the paintwork is all scratched.

The photos don't really show the damage all that well, the 2nd is probably the best.

They said they'd pay to fix it, and I'm wondering what you reckon it'd cost to fix it. None of them are deep enough to hit the metalwork.

Looking for advice on a few options:

    1) car is due service in 5k km, just wait till then and ask BMW dealer to look at while doing the service
    2) Just get the two areas looked at.
    3) Get the entire car done and split the cost with them as there are a few other chip marks and a scratch on the rear quarter and a few other minor marks.

Obviously I want them to pay for the fix, but don't want it to be unnesicarily expensive, what do you guys think?

    Bonnet 2

I'd get it done by an independent specialist rather than a main dealer - high prices for the same job.

A few look deep enough, but either way the entire panel has to be sprayed, but it could be the prep work that will drive the costs up. Ring around, prices can vary and it depends on the depth of the scratch.

To use a well-coined car trade phrase, "It'll buff out".

The thing is I think it probably would, they are pretty light scratches. I thought it was much worse but cleaned the car earlier today and with all the muck cleared off only one scratch is fairly deep, the rest would not even be noticable from 2-3 feet away.

You might even get away by doing it yourself with a light compound and elbow grease. PaintDoctor will be able to advise you further ;)

I've been searching the forum for the last while and detailer.ie comes up again and again. I reckon this might be a good option, particularly from what he says in this post

I haven't even looked at the pics to be honest, I see this as black and white, they admitted they were wrong and will pay. Find a reputable spray painter and get a quote for him to sort it. Polishing etc is a waste of time as it won't be permanent. You are only after buying this car and iirc you spent a few quid on it.

Also your friends are f**ktards, I drive cheap, old cars that I change fairly frequently and none of my friends would dream of doing that to mine or anyone elses car, nor me to theirs.

Compounding and polishing is permanent as you are removing not covering up scratches. Although bodyshops tend to do the quick fix and fill in lighter defects with filler heavy polishes. Wet sanding may be called for in this case. Photos do not look that bad to me, although they can be deceptive. Only repaint as a last resort. I'd try a detailer first. Machine polishing is their forte, not the case with many bodyshops.
