Car radio on a plane

Has anyone traveled on an airline with a car radio (used, not in box), either in a suitcase or with hand baggage? Is it permitted? I wouldn't want to set off any alarms etc..
    This is a serious question!
    Thanks for any input.

My brother-in-law travelled to Ireland with one in his suitcase a few years back, and I don't think it was an issue. It was checked in luggage. It might cause some problems as carry on, as they can ask you to prove electrical goods are working, and obviously you can't do that with a car radio.

I have traveled with lots of unusual gadgets in my carry-on, including a broken laptop dismantled into all sorts of odd-looking pieces. There has never been a problem with this. Security staff have sometimes been surprised at the unusual amount of electronics on the x-ray and asked me to unpack it all for a moment. But they have never given me a hard time about it; and why would they, it is not forbidden.

The one thing you are definitely not allowed is to turn on a radio in mid-flight. Surely, with a car radio there is no risk of that anyway as you would have no suitable battery on you (these are actually forbidden because they contain corrosives).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I would assume it's fine, but as it won't be packaged in the Kenwood box, I didn't want it being mistaken for something unmentionable.
And of course, I won't be turning it on mid-flight!!
