How's everyone feeling now?

I for one am not worried at all, sure I haven't studied as much as I could or really should, but now I just really want all this Leaving Cert business to be over with. Like I feel no pressure or anything, I'm more just annoyed that this is taking so long. And how can 2 or even 6 years worth of work really be justified in 2 or 3 hours of exams?

What do you guys think? And how are you all feeling now with only a few days to go?

I feel much the same... I know what I need to do, I know how much time I have to do it but my mind just doesn't want to focus... I guess I'm just getting bored with all this and the sooner it's over, the better!

Oh and in my opinion, the system is all load of crap... (just thought I'd throw that in there)

Sames. I'm sick of all this. I just want it to be over. I'm going to Berlin directly after the exams and I've found myself thinking about that more than the Leaving Cert. I'm just done with school, I can't wait to be out of there. It's all boring me at this stage.

The system is the biggest load of bollox too. There's no way I'm gonna get what I need to get done in either English or History. There just isn't enough time, so it's not even a true reflection of how good someone is at a subject, it's just a test of how quickly you can recall information. Complete joke.

If you ask me they should split the LC into four parts. You get examined in the first part in December of 5th year and then another in June and the same for 6th year. That would be far better than one uber exam over the course of two weeks.

They could even split all the subjects into little modules like they do in university. That would be far far better.

So essentially just continuous assessment? I couldn't agree with you more! I was even talking to several of my teachers about this and they'll all agreed that continuous assessment would be much much better...

Good idea, but it would cost more money so the government wouldnt like it..:(

I know how you feel, my whole life is on hold, my band, my girlfriend and rugby. All I can think of is how I'll be free to do everything again once I finish this crap!

Also I completely agree, though the system has stated that this type of continual assesment will never happen because they do not pocess enough teachers and examiners to carry it out :(

That's what I hate about our government... They can go off spending millions on ridiculous things that we don't need while the likes of the health and education services suffer...

We pay a fee for the LC right? I wouldn't mind paying that fee four times if it meant we got continous assesement.

The main problem though isn't the money it's that there wouldn't be enough teachers and examiners to correct and sit in all the exams.

In the current economic (seriously overused statement these days) I'd say they'd have no trouble finding suitable people to be examiners...

Ah sure what can we do, it's too late for me and anyone doing their leaving in the next few years. But all in all, the whole leaving cert needs a serious overhaul!

Getting increasingly nervous. I keep thinking about everything that can go wrong. I know it's a really bad attitude to have but I can't help it.

That's true, but remember they'd have to pay all of them. The administration costs of running the Leaving Cert are huge. Remember it's not as simple as just getting people to take exams more often - there's commissioning exam papers, working out marking schemes, keeping the papers secret while distributing them nationwide, doing remarkings where requested. I can see your point but I can't see the government doing an overhaul anytime soon

Ok first thing you need to realise is that the leaving cert is not the end of the world! Next you have to remember that you are not getting tested on what you know, it's what you remember you know, so obviously you know your stuff so you have no need to worry. :) In the next few days just spend like 3 hours or maybe a lil more if you can study ( I'm terrible at studying so I do as less as I can) and don't do too much, and seriously you will be fine and before you know it you will be out enjoying the sun for the rest of the summer :)

Ps a note for after your tests, the minute you finish a test don't think about it whatsoever because this will just stress you out, focus on your next one.

I've heard of classmates doing 9 hours study a day and I'm thinking WTF..

I've so much to cover in so little time and I'm wasting loads of it. The only thing keeping me going is the painful thought of having to go back to school in September and do it again next year. **** that ****!!:pac:

I did 12 hours last week for my summer exams, it's not that extreme really. Came home at 12PM, stayed studying until 12AM. I needed it badly though.

I dont know. I was feeling fine last Friday, but now that today is the Monday, ie "the week" before it starts, I've been confused.

I realized I still have to revise poetry, a lot of Maths, some Irish history and a bit of Bio... seeing as I did NOTHING today (I'm not at school), I'm finding it hard to see myself doing what left I need to do!

I was pretty panicked and that's what made me do twelve hours. I didn't set out to do twelve hours, it's just that I needed it.

tbh its not how much you know, its how well you predict whats coming up and how much you remember of the stuff you've learned, may seem obvious but...

Pfft! I have the LC in a week and I'm not even panicked, and doing nowhere near 12 hours. I kinda wish I was panicking though, then I might do more study :pac:

the exams are only 3 hours long, not that long to be honest so the amount of stuff they can ask doesnt warrant doing 12 hours in a day...

Remember "the Leaving" well. It`s been twenty years.
Take it as a life experience and don`t get too hung up on it. Ye all will encounter greater hurdles in the coming years.

One thing I did think about years later was how many kids I spent so much time with over a five year period and never saw again after we walked out of our final exam.

    There was no facebook/mobiles.....

    Good luck everyone.

firstly, teachers make exams seem more hard to make ye study, secondly you can predict fairly well what will come up, thirdly you can get your results re checked if ur not happy, fourthly you can always repeat the year if ya need!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 loocas

I would think most people would rather avoid having to repeat!

I feel... ok. Haven't done nearly as much study as I should have but I think I might still get a place. I got 470 for my portfolio in LCAD, and expect to get around 360~ points, meaning around 830~ points altogether, give or take 30 points.

I have teachers and parents telling me I'll get in no bother but I still sh*t meself thinking about getting 800 and it not being enough, what with so many applicants and that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭seanbmc

Been studying in the libray and getting good work done there, decided to try and stay home today and didn't get nearly as much done.

I just want to get it over with, this whole year has been tough but the end is near! Just need to keep my head down now and try not to take too many extended breaks(like today :D). Didn't do much today, I feel guilty about it but as soon as I open a book, I find something better to be doing :pac:.

    Best of luck to everyone
