Holliday in UK

hello i am driving on a provisonal, can i drive to uk for a week, will i need to get uk insurance tax..what is the story.. do tthey check everything boarding the ferry or do i have a certain time frame to get this sorted in the uk, otherwords i stay for a week then go home all on my irish insurance/tax?

An Irish provisional is not valid outside of the republic of Ireland.

As long as you have your car road legal in Ireland (ie Taxed and insured) you'll be fine. You don't need to tax/insure your car in the UK!

On the car being searched, not all cars are....its done at random. They just usually ask you to open the boot for them to look in.....rarely ask you to empty it.

You'd want to check with your ins on the prov licence as I'm not sure how that would work.

Hi,

If your driving on a provisional license here then you Can't drive in the UK on it. If for some reason you did and were stopped they would impound your car as you don't have a valid license.
Provisional license is only permitting you to learn to drive in Ireland. Not valid outside of the Republic.
So unless you do your test and pass I would say you can't drive in the UK.

Your provisional is not valid outside the republic of Ireland so I would advise a call to your insurance company regarding this

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but a provisional licence should be valid in the UK provided the driver is accompanied by a qualified driver....Driving on your own on a provisional licence would be a total no no.:eek:

No, you are wrong. It is only valid in the State, not other countries

Nope. Its only valid in the republic. Think its even written on the front of it if I remember correctly

No, not even with a full licensed driver next to you. N.I. provisional would work as they are UK.
UK provisional licenses are not allowed here either.

Why doesn't the licenced driver (that you surely have with you at all times) just drive while you are in the UK?

When I was on holidays in Crete years ago we went to hire out a car. When I showed my license to the guy at the desk he asked what "provisional" meant. We told him it said "professional".

I doubt that would work in the UK though.
