Probably the wrong section, but not sure where else to post this, really appreciate if someone could guide me in the right direction.
I have a business idea. Both myself and husband lost our jobs in the past year and we've been racking our brains trying to figure out how to make ends meet.
My husband is a wonderful singer - he definitely lost his vocation. He has sang at many, many events and has always been asked why he didnt do it professionally.
So now we'd like to set him up as a guest singer for parties.
    Where do we start?????
Haven't a clue where to begin to get the ball rolling on this one. We'd like to do it properly and not just as a favour for family/friends. We'd like to do it professionally - advertising/rates etc.
Any ideas on our first step???????
Again, this may not be the right section, so mods feel free to move it if there is a more relevant section.
    Many thanks

Try irishbandslist.com . It is a music website. They are bringing out a new version of the site soon and may be offering agent facilities for musicians and groups. Contact the site and asking them if they have any ideas, gigs or advice for you. You should get some help there.

You could advertise on weddingsonline.ie as a weddings singer

The best marketing for a singer, is for people to see him singing.

Try to get gigs or record a few demo's. Noone is going to hire a singer without seeing them perform first.

Its really a case of crawling before you walk.

Echoing what Dublin_Gunner has said. Maybe post a few recordings to Facebook, Youtube et all to generate interest. Let local hotels know of the service too with some demo cds that they can pass to wedding clients

just to throw my tuppence worth in on this.......

When you say he has sang at many events before they were events he was already at and possibly had a jar or two of Dutch courage on board, I know that's the only way I would sing in front of a crowd.

anyway an idea might be to find a band or singer that currently do weddings etc and see if you can tag along maybe sing a song or two during there break. you might not make any money off it but the learning experience should be of benefit to you.

Most wedding singers and bands can come recommended by word of mouth and through the online sites mentioned above.

I was at a wedding 4 years ago a band played they were amazing simply amazing I have been to 5 events since where they were the entertainment and when I hear they are the ent. I know it's going to be a good night.

Best of luck with your venture op........

Thanks - Im the OP. Some good advice there.

For what it's worth, he hasn't had a drink in years, so would have been sober at the events he's sang at.
I don't want this to be a very casual set up though - I kind of want to set it up so that we (Ill be his agent!) appear professional. I get that its baby-steps at the start, but I'd rather do it properly. Thanks
