    Hi guys,

Trying to get back some form of fitness at the moment but have a problem with my legs.
No matter how little/much running I do- the next time I go to jog or play sport my legs- paticularly my calves kill me. To the extent that I find it hard to run.
This isn't just that I'm out of shape (although probably a large part of it)because I played rugby all last season and no matter how much training I did, my legs would always be killing me come the next match or training session. To the point of finding it hard to run.
I try to stretch as much as I can both before and after but it doesn't seem to have much effect... could it have something to do with showering/not showering (cold or hot water If you get me)- something I'm eating or not eating?? Any ideas? Thanks!

Could be your runners or the surface you run on.....

After run if the sea is available get in up to your waist colder the better , if not hold the shower head on your legs for few mins then go hot , makes a huge difference and get a stick http://the-therapy-connection.com/The-Stick-Travel-Stick/M/B000P7PVWU.htm?traffic_src=GB&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=GB&id=uk

How long has it been going on for?

It could be your body getting used to a new activity.

I suffer with tight calves myself somtimes, foam rolling is brilliant for it.

Not to try and worry you now but it could be a cardiovascular problem ie. blood flow.
Im 20 now,but from around 15 i had realy tight calves, almost to a point that i could barely run. I tought this was from playing to much (at 1 point i was playing with 11 different teams between hurling, football and rugby). It was by chance that i was in a gym and was told to see a doctor that it was found that i had blockage in an artery that pumps blood to the legs. A simple enough procedure sorted it out and now i have no problem with my calves what so ever.
I wont do any harm to get it checked by a GP. It could also be your feet not been developed properly. This would require insoles made by a specialist.

Thanks guys, had a cold shower last night after working out so will see how I feel when I go running tonight.

You could be right about the runners etc. now that you mention it, I have been wearing a pretty crappy pair of boots for rugby and running on grass so that could be a factor.

    What is foam rolling exactly?

Hope it's not anything serious with the legs but I'll try making a few changes and see if it gets better, otherwise I'll go to the doctor.

    Thanks for the advice.
