Buying an iPhone for a third party (as a present)- cheapest?

    I want to buy my godson an iPhone for his 18th birthday.

    He has an 087 number, but he's on pre-pay with 3 Mobile because, apparently, they offer free texts to kids. Anyway, that's not really important.......

    1. Where's the cheapest place to buy a 3Gs?

    2. Will he be able to use it straight off the bat? i.e. anything I should bear in mind?

    You could try getting a sim-free iPhone from abroad (I don't know if they offer them here in Ireland) but your safest bet would be looking on adverts.ie and getting a second hand iPhone and unlocking it yourself.

    Has anyone has experience with ordering a sim free I-Phone off the net?
    So many sites have them , im also buying one not for me so looking not to spend to much!!
