Sugar I had this posted and it didn't come up properly. I had this done over ten years ago. In my personal experience it gave me a slight lisp when I got it at first. You get used to speaking with it though fairly quickly and the lisp goes away! I had to have this treatment to create room for teeth because my arches were too narrow, so it created a gap between my front teeth which was then closed by braces. I'm only speaking from my own experience, so ask your own dentist about what effects it can have on you.

it will be so worth it in the end :)

The brace may affect your speech initially but you will become used to it after a week or so. The expansion should only improve the apperance of your teeth if done correctly so dont be too worried. It will all be worth it in the end

    Hi OP

I had this procedure done in july last year in CUH dental hospital. The week before my ortho fitted the expander into my palate and i struggled with speech to be quite honest with you.

The op itself was a day procedure and i was given plenty of pain meds. A bit of swelling and bruising in the week after but nothing awful.
The expander gets tightened then every day and speech does get better and you manage but in being honest here, its tough with it in. 6 months after surgery mine was removed.
I had my bottom braces on before i got this and i got my top braces on with this in.
