So yeah, sometimes it plays the games for ten mins before freezing, and other times it simply wont load the games. Old 2007 60gb model.

    1. Where can I get my PS3 repaired and how much would it cost? Is it worth it compared to buying a new one?

    2. If I were to by a new one or get my current one repaired, how can I ensure that I am able to play my locked saves? Do the repair guys format the HDD or anything?

Seems like such a waste seeing as I can still do everything else with the PS3, though I guess it it a GAMING console above all else.

There are quite a few places that do it. Google "console repairs Ireland".

You would be better off asking them yourself, I can't imagine that they would need to format your HD.

My phat PS3 died (YLOD) on friday, as soon as I pressed X to load game.
Gonna see if I can get it repaired and at least back up my HDD(hadn't done it in a while:o). That way I can stick my saves onto a new PS3 when I get it.

    Has anyone used http://www.consolerepaircentre.ie ?

Their site seems very professional and they're close enough for me to visit, but it would be great to hear user reviews and prices.

What about saves that are locked to PSN and or User accounts? I tried to copy a save from one user to another on the same PS3 and I could not play the copied version because it was created on a different user.

Another question I have is: Seeing as my PS3 is an old model, is it really worth fixing the blu ray drive? Surely it's only a matter of time before something else goes wrong? I often experience freeziing when using the PS3's internet browser. Not a huge hassle but a sign that maybe all is not well?

I really don't want to buy a new one, but at the same time, I don't want to be facing another problem in a few months.

    Decisions.

    Hi,

I also had this happen to my PS3, i argued and argued with Sony but i got know-where,Sony knows this is an issue and should by right have taken all the first batch of 60gb ps3 back and replaced with new ones. Unfortunately the consumer loses again.

I ended up bringing it back to Smyths where i bought it, explained it was out of warrenty and that i no longer had the receipt but that the problem is known by sony, sony have arranged with certain places and i think Game is a store that do this. But they take your faulty ps3 and give you a new 80gb ps3 for €160. This was about a year ago. A friend got the same problem and they gave him the 250gb slim ps3 for €180 and his faulty machine. This is your only option, you could replace the reader but its prob near the same price and to think you could get 250gb.

    Hope this helps mate,

    Same happened to me recently,
Sony offered me a refurbished unit for £131 including pickup of my old one and delivery.

But buying a blu ray drive yourself and installing is much cheaper €60 - €80. Or if you dont fancy cracking it open yourself, google console repairs and you'll find places that will fix it for you.

Another thing to try is to hold the power button on the front of the console down, the PS3 will start up and shutdown, repeat the process but this time you will hear a double beep. Release the button.
Plug in the controller and press the PS button. You will get a menu, choose option 3 to restore the file system. This restores the default drivers of the PS3.
The versions that are currently in use are not stored on the file system but elsewhere so a system restore doesnt restore them promperly.
Didnt fix my problem as my BRay drive is knackered, but it migh help you out.

I tried that and it seemed to have done the trick because I got a good 30 minutes into a game before it start acting up and eventually freezing. After that it was back to square one, either not loading the game, or loading it but freezing after 10 minutes or so.

I think I'll just cut my losses and buy a new PS3 that will hopefully last longer than 3 years...
