    Howdy folks,

I am getting the most unbelievable hum from my amp or PA in my room nowadays! it wasnt always there so i dont know whats going on! I run my guitar through a Pod XTL and whether i run it into the effects loop on my amp or straight into my PA it gives out a pretty annoying hum.

Now if i even dare hook the USB on the pod up to my laptop the hum is UNBELIEVABLE! More like standing beside a digger to be honest!

Again it wasnt always like this, i dont know what ive done since!

It seems like a ground loop thing whatever ya call it!

Anyone know how i can fix it??

    Cheers. :(

Do you have any other electrical items plugged into the same plug sockets? These usually cause hums.

Shut off everything on the laptop (ext drives etc) that you don't need and unplug everything electrical you don't need as well.

Try turning off lights in the house and see if that makes any differences.

To be fair theres probably a million other things plugged into the sockets but some are needed, (internet router etc etc) the laptop has all drives disconnected, If i plugged the laptop, PA and pod into the same 2 sockets with nothing else in them would that solve it?

It's trial and error mostly. I couldn't definitely say doing such and such a thing will work. Try looking up hum problems on the sound on sounds website.

flourescent lights (also CFL) and crt computer monitors would be a big issue...

Would it be possible that something happened insode my Pod??

ive just plugged in the amp on its own and the PA on its own and theres no hum, plug in a cable to both and still no hum, then as soon as i touch the cable off its input to the pod(which isnt even plugged in!!) the hum appears!!
