iphone bluetooth problem

There seems to be problem with Bluetooth on my wife's iPhone.

Both of us have 3GS models. I just got the iPad and was eager to try out the Scrabble tile-rack thing, which requires the iPhones to connect to the iPad via Bluetooth.

My phone did this no problem, but my wife's just won't, and I've no idea about what I can do to troubleshoot the problem. I've looked at the various settings and options on both phones and they're the same.

The only difference is with the message on the start up of the Tile Rack app itself. On my phone, it says "To properly connect your tile rack to the iPad set your Wifi to Off and your Bluetooth to On" for a couple of seconds before it disappears and the connection is established.

On the other phone it says "A wireless connection must be active on this device to join a game. Setting Bluetooth on and WiFi off is recommended" but then it stays on this message screen cos it can't make a connection.

*EDIT* - the problem phone's Bluetooth settings page is identical to the working one. Both are set to "On" (obviously) and both say "Now Discoverable"

Any ideas how to fix this?
