Did you ever get really good/bad customer service in Louth.

KFC i find is not great in Dundalk. The marshes KFC stop cooking food on a Thurs night at about 7:00 but i was told i can have the scraps. The retail park KFC service is bad and the guy on the front counter should learn how to talk not grunt and say "please" and "thank you"

On the other hand i find Costa good and HMV in the marshes.

i previously posted that i would reckon that the service in abra in Dundalk is the worst customer service EVER.I understand that the staff are under serious pressure at nights between volume of customers and pissed drunk customers, but the day time service is equaly as bad.grunting at customers and throwing their change at them simply isnt good enough. Also i check my order before i leave the premises as i have arrived home on many an occaision to find that my original order has been screwed up completly.
Conlons deli in church st. and longwalk s.c have excellent customer service and fair play to them.also add Mankind mens shop in clanbrassill st.
The level of customer service throughout Ireland is appallingly bad.Surely owners/managment etc..must know that the customer is king and should be treated as such and in the main the buck stops with them(they do after all employ these people and have interviewed them for their job)

Agree with abra - horrible people
Best restaurant for customer service is the Windsor or the Lisdoo - very friendly
Also - the texaco garage on the Carrick Road has great service - especially the guys outside

HMV? good service? yeah right, they are just as bad as abra, everytime I go on there the lads who are in run of the place are always playing AC/DC or some other metal crap/american metal over the stereo other than anything else, and they are the most unhelpful people I've ever had the displeasure to encounter.

You seem to be basing half of your opinion on the fact they play music you dislike. I worked in HMV last year on work exp and i know it's who ever is on the till gets to chose the music thats playing. I know now walking past by the music more than likely who is on :pac: always found them helpful in terms of getting stuff for you and having a bit of banter when you're buying the stuff.

    Costa are good too,
river island are good the few times ive been there considering they are probably the worst case of teenagers walking around not going to buy anything.
xtravision it depends on who is working, the younger staff seem keen to help alot of the time.

I have to say I have always found the staff in HMV very helpful and indeed I have complimented them for their service in the past. I don't use the store too often so can be a bit lost when I go looking for something and they are always generous with their time and advice.
Fast food joints tend to have surly staff - not unexpecetd with the poor wages and the abuse they seem to get from customers.
Generally I find service fine in the area. OK shops in the North are very into service and it's can all be very in your face (sometimes too much so) but I think businesses certainly around Dundalk generally are to a satisfactory standard on service. Of course we can gripe about this place or that place but overall is fine. Basing you opinion just on the likes of KFC is a bit much.

Two more i've thought for, devennys always has what you're looking for. But it seems like your sticking a knife through them for a simple request.

Then the cinema staff are all very nice except for the woman manager.

KFC is the place i found consistantly bad there are others places like the tax office which is not very good. Other people have mentioned a few other places and they are not all fast food outlets.

Speaking from the point of view of someone who has worked in sales/retail etc. and has done loads for customers, I find that an unreal number of people that come into shops can be quite ignorant and rude towards the staff especially when they know that we can't say anything back to them:mad:. There are so many customers that would leave you in a bad mood with the way they carry on that after a while you can spot them a mile off and hope one of the other members of staff will get to talk to them.

In saying that, however, a lot of customers can be quite pleasant and willing to have a bit of craic when they go out to buy something.

Lol, heres one most of you wont have experienced. The Remnant Basket, Chapel St, Dundalk has to be the perfect case study for appalling customer service.

I could not agree more with your whole post. I have been in retail for about 10 years now and have to say I have come across some real bad customers and nothing is good enough for them. I genuinly think some people forget that you are only following company policy as set out by the company and you didnt wake up that morning just too pee them off. However as you said some people are just lovely and delight to serve of which I have had many.

In reply to the topic in hand tho I have to say the customer service in Pennys in the Marshes is dire I have never come out of there impressed.

I think the woman in Marliy's beside McEvoys and the one in the small pet shop on the ramparts both need to at least act interested. Every time i go in asking for something or just browsing i feel like I'm putting them out by being there. A smile or a greeting that sounds like they would like my custom would be nice. A "Well" while not even lifting your head from the magazine doesn't cut it. The butcher in green acres is like a 365 grinch.

On good service, thats a tough one. Although I always found Rices builders providers to be great even before i got to know the lads. Nothing else really jumps to mind.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 583 ✭✭✭Dundalk Daily

Lol yes the butcher in Greenacres is a nark and if Im not mistaken he owns the place.

Great customer service is the lads in the old Kwik Fit place on the Coes Rd, not sure what it is called now. Had an issue recently, Mrs popped in and I couldnt believe how far they went out of their way and even phoned me to discuss what they were going to do. Well done lads.

My OH went to that drive thru a few days ago and was rushed on. He was just tryin to decide what Box meal to get and whoever was on the order post wouldnt give him a minute. I dont think he will bother going back.

I had to stop going to Chivers on the Carrick road when it was still a Centra. I just found their staff unreal ! Havent been back since !

Dunnes Stores in Ard Easmuinn is hit and miss too.... Some of the younger staff can be ok but god help you if you disturb the local gossiping with a request to make use of the checkout !

I agree fully about the Texaco garage. Great service. But I can't agree at all about the former Cheevers when it was Centra. I found the staff very friendly, always helpful. It was a shop I actually liked going in to. Now it's Mace and the new staf are also very freindly but the bleeding Cash macine is out of order 4 times out of 5. It has made me use the Spar/Texaco instead.

I find the whole service in the food court of the Marshes to be ignorant. Went to KFC last Saturday and I had to wait to be serviced for nearly 5 mins as the person behind the counter was too busy talking to 2 friends of hers, then was nearly overcharged for the food and when I informed her of the mistake she turned around and muttered something which I found rude.

On the positive side I find River Island to be very friendly and helpful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,004 ✭✭✭Ann22

I agree with Dioza on the woman in the pet shop on the Ramparts, very unfriendly and unhelpful. I've always found Gamestop lads as really helpful. HMV staff in my experience have always been very nice to deal with. Specsavers staff are just lovely, excellent customer service.

Had an awful experience in the o2 store in the Long walk today. There was a problem with the microSIM on my dads iPad so the guy rang head office or whoever - i went to take a call and came back and saw him browsing through my books

He was on the phone for a good 45 and the best solution was to turn it off then on again and if it didn't work, to come back tomorrow

I could have throttled him - also, the heat in that shack didnt help

They actually won some award recently for customer service, it was in the Argus- I wasn't surprised. Martina and Kathleen the two opticians were very kind to me recently over a scary experience where I temporarily lost the central vision in one of my eyes. Long appointments for little or no charge. The counter staff are very pleasant and helpful too when I pop in regularly for minor repairs on my son's frames.

    Been a while folks.. :)

    The good!

Paddy Dwyer Shoes in Drogheda - Lads are always helpful and willing to knock a few bob off (without asking).

Waterstones in Scotch Hall - Very friendly staff, go out of their way to find something for you.

The Black Bull - Great staff even in difficult situations.

    The bad

    Can't think of many, but..

The Kylemore on West Street is a stand out - Horrible horrible staff. No manners - one particular young girl is the most infuriating person I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. Don't know how they get away with it. Never again.

lol haven' t been in devenneys for years but that takes me back....she was always a sour ole wan........snappy and unfriendly.
the one in the gift and art gallery ( i since saw her in the paper and she owns it ) is ignorant. its a horrible place to go in, you can't look at anything. she has no manners or customer service skills.
agree with service in garage at oriel, top class always, friedndly no matter who is on.................cheevers is good too but EVERYTHING is priced wrong but thats another issue.

agree about sloanes too , always friendly and the regular girl in joans shop up ath the top of ave road is very friendly.....but the shop on alphonsus road, can't remember name but used to be cash stores years back, there's a wee red headed guy in there and he has the manners of a dog, and when you hand him money he slams the change back on counter rather than hand it to you..... rude as hell !

For a start i just want to say this was a f**king great idea for a thread, so many people have hit the nail on the head when it comes to good & bad service in Louth.

That redhead guy in Alphonous Rd shop is a right little nark, id love to take a pop at him! Ditto for the guy who owns the butchers in Greenacres (and the woman that is usually working with him - a wench).
I find the guy whos owns La Cantina a bit unfriendly also.

As for good service you can't beat Mankind - always helpful & jolly, Sloanes shop ( all the family) i always try and use it over the franchise shops(centra, spar etc). Also Conlons Deli, and a special mention for the guy who owns Planet video store - extremely helpful and pleasant, always makes me go there instead of Xtravision.

I shop a lot in M&S Laurence center, sales assistants are very polite and efficient but I noticed a number of times when certain managers are on staff seem very uptight and there seems to be a bad atmosphere, these sales assistants are doing a great job, so managers lighten up for all our sakes!

i can't disagree more and won't let that comment go unanswered. I don't have cause to shop there too often but when I do she, and all the staff, are very helpful. I have never had bad serve from them. They'll even exchange stuff if you're not sure it was bought there. Your comment is unfair and a fault with this type of thread which can slag off anybody or any business on one person's opinion or gripe.

Actually I think the MODs need to be careful of some of the defamation that is here.

This is not directed at you specifically but to all the others who have posted about bad service in particular locations. The same applies to the OP always getting bad service in a fast food outlet. Why go back to these places? If I get bad service, or don't like someone's attitude, I don't give them my custom or money. If the woman in the stationery shop is so off putting don't go back. If the guy on the till is a pain then tell the manager and don't go back.

Just as an aside, I always make a point of complimenting good service. I say it to the person involved and tell the boss as well (often phoning afterwards to praise the staff member). Do many others do this?

aren't you lucky then ? the point is this thread is about louth customer service..........i gave examples of good an bad (In My Opinion).......i am very conscious of the service i get an expect to get the respect that i give..........i appreciate good service and friendly staff and have on occasion mentioned it to the ppl concerned or their bosses. my point was, in the case you accused me of 'defamation' i found this particular person to be rude and unhelpful..........maybe you're the type of person she wants in her shop and i am not, who knows........either way my experience is my experience, yours is yours ! both are as valid as each other.

Has anyone that's complaining ever had a prolonged job that they had to deal with the public? Like in a shop?

The lack of intelligence and pure ignorance of some customers would dumbfound you!

For that reason I sometimes give bad customer service the benefit of the doubt but if its constant thats a different matter

When I worked in retail no matter how stupid, ignorant and rude the customer was because I had pride in the customer service I gave no one was ever treated as shoddily or rudely as overall customer service has become in shops these days. It beggars belief how the fact of people spending in your place of work equates to your wages being paid and, in some cases, your job surviving eludes some of the people serving behind counters or on shop floors.

It's not the customers fault that you're not happy in the job/are hungover/had a row with your o/h /your boss is a w*nker.

The customer doesn't want to hear who or what you are doing at the weekend OR how much you are going to drink. Nor do they want to hear the intimate details of the goings on in the shop two doors down.

And when they are standing with an item in their hand at the till YES, they would like to pay for it.

Yes I had my fair share of gobsh*tes giving me a hard time, but I was able to rise above it with a smile on my face and usually they came back with their tail between their legs.

But if you feel anyone and everyone spending their hard earned cash in your place of work deserve your contempt - then you're in the wrong job.

I agree with some of what you are saying. I don't want to hear about last night or how you were put on late nights by the manager 3weeks in a row or that your getting your highlights done tomorrow.

    But...
There are absolute w*nkers out there that treat you like a piece of dirt on their shoe. They shout, swear and make a show of themselves and expect you to break company policy and pander to them - and as much as you try to give good customer service - there are some people that just push you too far with insults and threats and have to be stood up to.

In saying that, In my experience, I don't find their staff ignorant. I've an issue with the price of their ketchup though:)

I'm always buying stuff in the Gift and Art. Good selection of stuff, jewellery and gifts for every occasion. I used to find the staff intimidating a few years ago, especially when I had my son with me. I felt they watched every move...especially when the shop's crowded. Lately though, I've found them a lot better, there's a few younger girls working there now and they're very nice.

The manageress/head waitress/owner (not sure of her exact title) of Eno is a miserable so and so, her depressing responses and general bitchy attitude to any simple request or question makes me feel like hitting her over the head with the menu. Why do i go back? Because i love to rant about her everytime i leave the place, clears the head out.

The KFC is definitely another that stands out. You have to give it to them, they excel in consistency. Ive been to the drive through over a dozen times and not once did they manage to serve my order without missing something out.
