My mum is looking for a laptop, something cheap that'll be primarily used for skype and some light internet browsing - I was looking at this for her - would it be up to the task or would it be a waste of money?

They're refurbs, some company was getting rid of them. Crazy price. You'd pick up a decent netbook for 230ish. Which would blow it out of the water.

Where would I pick up one of theses netbooks? (what's the difference between a netbook and a laptop?)

Smaller, slower(At big tasks), longer battery life, slightly small keyboard/touchpad, no CD Drive.

Look at the Samsung NC range. Something like this: http://elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=WCENPN130KA03UK

Thanks for that - I'd need something with a slightly bigger screen though, was hoping for around 14"

Thats a notebook AKA Laptop then. The two common sizes would be 13" and 15.4".

    Actually, 15.6....

Its very basic, 2.2Ghz Celeron but if its for simple browsing thats fine. You could pay more and get a higher res screen but I dunno if thats gonna be worth your while because you'll be hitting around the 500 mark at least.
