I've read some great stuff on the forum here and on the net elsewhere regarding the excellent fitting service Foregolf offer. I know a few contributors here have used the service. I was just wondering what were the actual results in terms of scoring, handicap drop, etc? Could anyone share the facts ?

    Great thanks.

it would be good to see what are the concrete facts...eg, i dropped handicap from 14 to 10 in 6 months, etc...

Collected them today. Was hoping to get to range but wasn't able. Maybe tomorrow. If not will have to be seafield on Sunday.

Can you just bring in your own set and get them adjusted for lie and loft etc?

Well, how did it go ? There could be a queue forming to Foregolf depending on your answer !!

Well i went to the range last Thursday. If im to be honest i never hit balls as bad. Nothing would work for me. Drives were going left to right and couldn't hit an iron for love or money. Left the range going mad. Said i would wait till the Sunday when i played Seafield. Now that was a different story all together. My drives were great. Was hitting them dead straight. For anybody who has played the seafield i was 10 yards short of driving the 3rd hole. Drives were averaging 280 290 yards. They felt so good. Still the odd fluffed shot but was more down to been hungover a little. The irons were better. They feel alot different to my old shafts. Taking a while to get use to them. The ones a did hit flew and straight. Was able to just aim for green knowing it would be on line. Through 12 holes i had 25 points. Finished with 30 and 3 scratches and had about 4 lip outs. I emailed of foregolf and he said that irons usually take longer to get use to. There more designed for tempo than swing speed. PGA on sat and own club on Sunday so hoping for good scores. Will def be leaving my 3 and 5 wood into get the shafts changed as well.

    Brians947.

What Handicap are you? What driver did you end up with and shaft? What was your driver swing speed, because averaging 280-290 is tour quality driving.

How often would you need to visit ForeGolf. Suppose you got fitted and got your clubs. When do they recommend you get fitted again...couple years time or more regular or what?

i was wondering this before too...how often would your fitting need to be updated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 496 ✭✭Jasonw

Try to be more precise in your ave driving stats would you? There's a big difference between 280 and 290.

For example if you ave 290 you would be in 9th spot on the PGA Tour just short of Rory McIlroy who drives on average 290.6

If it is 280 you drop way down the list to tied 77th

I had my best ever driving day at a JSC a few weeks ago and worked out my average at bang on 250. That's 10 yards shorter than the shortest player on tour Brad Faxon.

Buying a golf GPS has really shown me how far (or not) the average golfer's drives go. Myself and some mates (handicaps 3-10) played a few weeks ago in the Heritage and even some of the melted drives within our fourball were only hitting 250/260 yards, even though they looked and felt like 280.

First of all i play of 21 at the moment. You question the drive distance. On Saturday i played the PGA and on the fifth hole the index one i drove the ball 270. It just stopped before the water. The Driver is a Cobra S2 with aldiva NVS 55 Stiff shaft. I hit it right the ball flys. As for how often you go to back is more up to you. He did say that in a few years if my handicap dropped i may just need new heads put onto the shafts. I suppose its really up to you. I still trying to get use to the irons. With my old clubs i had stock reg shafts on them. I would hit my 5 iron 150 yards from the fairway. Im now hitting my 7 iron the same distance out of the rough. 5 IRON going about 170 to 175 yards. Its great though as they are going dead straight and now i can aim were i want and it go's there 9 out of 10 times.

    sorry this is off topic
very good point,i'm always argueing this with my mates,i play off 5 ,hit it about 260-270 including roll,it all depends on the ground, slope etc,i hit 1 lasy week in Dun Laoighaire 360,8 iron to a par 5,these high hcpers who supposidly hit it 280 ish should see how they do on a hole with a forced carry of 220 or so,splash i bet,i carry the ball about 240 max,

Every body has a valid point. In the Pga we played of the bronze tee box. My drive landed around were the stroke saver said it was 274. I went by the sroke saver. As for hitting it 290 i played seafield and on the 3rd hole i was short of the green by about 20 yards. Thats 290 drive. For the people who question the distance go get fitted by them. My old driver was giving me about 240 to 250 with a regular shaft.

What type of irons did they fit you for? What kind of shaft?

I wasn't really questioning that youhit one drive 290 yards. I've hit 360 yard drives when conditions were favorable. But, on my best day my AVERAGE drive is 250

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭brians947

I would say in the pga i was averaging on the drive i hit right as im still trying to get used to the stiff shafts and get consistent about 265. I got my existing irons done by foregolf. They are Taylormade RAC OS 2 irons. He but True Temper GS 95 stiff shafts on them. After playing 3 rounds with them now there starting to feel more natural and getting results with them.

So new heads + new shafts....isnt that = new clubs?

No old heads and new shafts

What's the latest now Brians ? I'm interested in doing the same but it looks like I might have to wait until Sept before ForeGolf rig is available again after it's travels around UK and Ireland since I can really only get down to them on a Saturday.

Brians947, I am also interested in your experience with Foregolf. Like yourself, I am using a set of Taylormade OS2. However, I am playing off 24. I am shorter than the "regular" golfer (I am 5'7") so I would like to get my clubs looked at. And how much did it cost and how long did it take you on the day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,575 ✭✭✭Glencarraig

I went to Fore to get the irons I had bought elsewhere tweaked to suit me, a bit like putting the cart before the horse Don said!!, anyway, after warmup, he sprayed some stuff on my 6 iron, told me my target was the 150 metre sign, so I took aim, hit the 150m sign square on......Don told me to go home, nothing wrong with those clubs!!

Can they custom fit existing clubs, or does it have to be a new set?

Say I've full set of 14 clubs, how much would I be looking at to have the fitting done and then work done/new shafts/whatever is involved.

All questions answered in previous posts here. But to save you the trouble, they will fit new shafts on existing heads. From what I can tell, the shaft plays a huge part. No indications on pricing apart from the €50 or €100 for the fitting but I suppose this all depends on what shafts are recommended.

The update is good. Im hitting some great irons and big difference in distance. Hiiting 7 iron were i used to hit 5 iron. Playing at the weekend on a par 3 180 yard middle of green i hit 4 iron and landed past the middle and finished out the back. Still trying to get used to distance. On the driver front im not to happy. Was onto him and we have moved the head back to neutral from closed. If this doesn't work he wants me back in for a refit as he's not happy hearing im having issue's.

Good to see them trying to fix your issue with your driver. Sure some places will be like so what. We will take it back minus €100

Have an appointment with these next Friday for a new set of irons.

Can't wait now as they sound great over the phone and he assured me as a left-down gripper that I won't have to change!!

on the subject of how offten do you go to your clubfitter it depends on how offten you play because grips wear thay get stickey and look like **** when that happines you should get new one's i have seen people playing with 5 year old clubs with the orignal grips how tight can you be + the more you play your lies and lofts get knocked out.Depending on the clubfitter you went 2 your swingweight might need to be changed some of them have a moi weighing scale so if there is a club in the bag you like more than the others you can set the moi in the scale and make the set the same this helps with feel and confidenced+your divet will look a lot better
