I was asked to stick this 5 mile race on the calendar, and I noticed this very novel enticement among the prizes listed-
"Six month free membership to Kilcoole AC for the first Male and Female non club member."

    How's that for lateral thinking:)

    Great prize!

Great club (I would say that though, being a member ;-))

We ran the route on a training night during the week; it's a lovely run, a lot of it down leafy country roads.

Hopefully it'll get a good turn out.

Looking for stewards for Kilcoole AC road race 20th June
    Hi,

I am writing to from Kilcoole AC [www.kilcooleac.com. Our club trains at the Charlesland track twice a week and caters to all ages and abilities.

We are staging a 5 mile road race between Kilcoole and the Charlesland Road 20th June and we are looking for some voluntary stewards to free up some of our members to run. Details on the race are available on our web site by clicking on the group photograph on the home page.

We require approx 35 stewards from 10am until about noon. Duties will involve directing traffic and runners; and marking turns and corners.

This is a non commercial race, you might even like what you see and join our club.

Refreshments will be provided after the race.

Please feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

If you are willing to help out please PM me, DO NOT give post private info.

    Many thanks.

Hopefully I'll also be putting in an appearance at this. Looks like a nice route, and will be using it to establish my tempo pace for first few weeks of Berlin marathon training.

Here's the course not sure if you can get elevations from Goggle Maps, from knowing the area there's a bit of work on this one, just after the 1st mile there's a steep climb back up to the main road and from about 2.5miles to 3.5miles there are some rolling hills to contend with, one is quite steep, very fast last 1.5 though. Wouldn't put it down as a PBer, but it you can hit 3.5 in good shape, who knows.

Somewhere in the middle. I estimate a total climb of aprox 100m in the entire route. If you stretch that out over the route thats pretty okay.

Any chance of us getting a Boards AC team together for this? I can commit to being there on Sunday.

Here's a few Pix I'm uploading now from this morning.
Great morning for a race and very well organised, pity it wasn't better supported just under the 100 I would guess.
Won by Eddie McGrath in just over 27, with another solid run by Abhainn for a 5th place finish.

Thanks BeepBeep67 at least one of me there ... looking in pain as per normal :o

Lads this is one to put in your diary for next year.

Well organised, so easy for parking and registration, stewards at every junction and I mean EVERY junction.

The course was great but was probably too hilly for PB's, although I did get one :D (if the course was measured correctly)

Guy on a PA encouraging runners along the last 150m.

    And a beautiful sunny day.

    I'll be back ......

Some pics taken at the three mile mark.

Very well done to all participants - it can't have been easy running in that heat.

Make a note in your diaries for this race next year!
