Castlepark Motors will do a service for €100 - Dock Road. I think Advance will do a similar thing for €75.

Why not do it yourself. Nothing too hard there. If your oil filter can be reached from above car, you could buy an oil extractor pump for taking the oil out & so do away with the need to get underneath the car at all. You could then change oil & filter as often as you like for about €40.

Jack up car, put axle stands under it, drain oil, screw off filter, screw on new one, replace sump bolt, oil in, check level, and away you go

Piece of piss. All can be done in about 30 mins.

A lot of petrol cars have fuel filters that don't need changing.

under no circumstances go near a main dealer for your filters.why? the ones you get from any motor shop will have the same ones, the only difference is one has the manufacturers stamp on it the other doesnt, likelihood is they were made in the same factory believe it or not.
main dealers will charge you a lot more for your filters eg a fuel and oil filter cost me around 45e whereas the main dealer would be around 60+ euro yes that much of a difference. best of luck with it.

a decent oil could be around 60e for 8 liters thats 2x4L cans
i cant remember exactly what i paid for the oil but it was the castrol gear, not cheap ****e. ok dude

can i ask the obvious .....why? i mean when your fuel gets low in the car, then its going to suck up all the wee bits of crap that will be in your petrol tank and eventually these bits of dirt will clog up a fuel filter.

    Not quite true there.
There are 3 type of parts Genuine, OEM and spurious. What you've described is the difference and similarity between Genuine and OEM parts. OEM parts are made under licence from the motor company and are indeed of the same design and quality.
However spurious parts are made by completely different companies who have no relationship with either the OEM or the motor company. Such parts are usually a close copy of the Genuine/OEM and are often of lower quality (to keep costs down).

If you want quality but not the price ask for OEM parts.
    e.g. Genuine = VW, OEM=Bosch, Spurious=CheapoPartsCo.

There is absolutely no difference in the length of life you will get from either of the 3 types. That being so, you would be crazy to fork out for the car manufacturer's branded filter.

I would beg to differ with this statement, I run my own workshop and would normally carry about 2000 filters for various vehicles.
Someone mentioned Vw so for example genuine VW filter is most likely made by either Mann/Knecht-Mahle/Bosch.
If you buy genuine you get it in VAG box, would have less difficulty if a warranty issue arose on the engine while covered.
If you buy OEM(original equipment manufacturer) you would have equally good a filter by all means but would have to go through significantly more paperwork should a warranty claim arise.
If you buy OEM level you are in a different ball park this is the likes of fram coopers wix etc etc these are manufactured to a standard but It really comes down to experience whether one would be comfortable using it or not.
Then there are a whole other league of filters out there that dont even look like they are capable of the job. Any mechs on here will know about the fake "genuine" toyota filters that were being supplied through factors until about a year ago.

May I suggest that the op asks around for prices on an "oil & filter only"
as If he were to do this him/herself this is basically all that would be done.
    Some workshops may facilitate this
