Is this what the 'new' politics were meant to be about Mr. Clegg?

    From today's Telegraph:

"Between 2004 and 2007, Laws claimed between £700 and £950 a month to sub-let a room in a flat in Kennington, south London"

I suppose, one has to wonder why the LibDems marketed themselves as more ethical than the other two main parties, if a series of disclosures like this will continue to follow.

Also, what is it with several Lib Dems over the years, keeping their sexuality hidden?

Should Laws step down from cabinet? I think so, if only for the sake of the LibDems 'new' politics image.

It goes to show that politicians are the same no matter what party they represent.....rotten and self serving. No doubt there will be several more scandals in the coming months or years. Voters will realize that they just voted in another lot of sleaze bags to replace the Labour ones.

Just to clarify the point of this thread a little - he paid that on behalf of his lover, and claimed it on expenses. There's nothing particularly odd about the amount, I'm afraid - I used to pay £250/month for a room in Earls Court 25 years ago.

Yet, he didn't seem to publically acknowledge Mr. Lundie as his partner.

He's working in a very conservative enviroment all of his life. I'd imagine thats whats at the root of it, though obviously he still shouldn't have diddled the money.

I would agree, except in the cases where a politician was campaigning for a particular lifestyle but secretly living another, like this example of hypocrisy.

No. You see in Britain politicians know that one should do the decent thing, and not hang on like you were gripping a rope above a pit full of spikes.

No false claims involved. 40,000 STG is rather another matter.

Don't try and suggest it's anything to do with personal morality, it's because there's actually a chance of a party being damaged and then out of power for more than one parliamentary term, whereas here the worst that can happen to FF is that they'll lose an election and get in the next time.
