    on the plus:

    Comfy ride,
    Quick,
    Solid engine.

    On the negative:

    weak clutch,
    turbo failure can be common,
tyre wear can be a problem.
    Suspension bushins can ewear quickly

+1 on the turbo fail. Also, not much legroom

    I had one,
Has experienced everyone of thoes mentioned above problems. November 2005 when we bought her new. Has done 440,000km, lent her to the brother... rolled her, not much left!
    :(

However I could recommend them... Brilliant yok! Faster than most cars on the road too... and will start everytime!

    well mogsheen,

+ 3 on the turbo fail, the pigeons 1.9TDi Caddy 2005 turbo died....and my own TDI golf also 2005 killed a turbo...luckily was under warranty at the time..... also the dual mass flywheel went into ***te and had to be replaced under warranty. i traded it for Another new golf TDI in 2008 and she's flying and hasnt given an ounce of trouble......touch wood.
Golf is exact same engine as the caddy.

I had to replace a set of injectors on my own Caddy at 110,000 k/m not cheap, also had to replace both front wheel bearings, both front wishbones(bushes cant be gotten separatly), a l/h front inner tie rod end, an exhaust back box and the handbrake cable broke yesterday on it, best van in that category out there at the moment is the Transit Connect.

just bought an 04 caddy new shape a couple of weeks ago, 119,000 miles! For about a two or three day period, i had this 3 loud beep noise, flashing handbrake light and a still abs light and another light which looks like a car with skid marks all come on. it did this maybe 4 or 5 times within the two/three days. its been almost 2 weeks later, they havnt been on since. anyone know what this was/could be? thanks guys! also! this might sound really, really stupid, but i find the van rolls quite easily backwards/forwards when out of gear, handbrake off.(i know that sounds thick on my part) sometimes i wouldnt exactly say its even on a steep hill or anything close to a hill. its just i never noticed this rolling before when i drove my last car, this would be my first van.

I have never saw those bushes fail a DOE. Was there much play in yours? Did they split the rubber part of the bush or what?

I have a notion it could be a low battery.
Similar happened to me when my alltinator failed!

Common fail on the newer shape caddys, there is usually around 5mm+ play in the bushes when checked on the shaker plates and when replaced there is zero play

The bushes can be got seperatly spurious now as well.

thanks very much for your reply! vw would prob charge e100 to tell me that! my last yoke was a mercedes A class, and when a light came on in that fcuking thing, it usually ended up costing me e500 or e600. happy memories.
i think the last guy had it sitting, as he had no use for it anymore, so low battery might sound bout right! thanks again!:P
