Hi i'm 20 year old student looking for a part-time job. Have i left it too late at this stage with the summer starting and everything or could i still get one?

And how would i best go about looking for one. Is it a case of just walking into random shops/places and asking if they have any vacancies & giving out cvs or is there another way?? I've applied to a couple of places online but i haven't got a reply back yet...

Any students out there manage to get a p-t job recently and if so how have you got it?

any advice would be appreciated :)

If I were you, Id leave in your CV pretty much anywhere that you'd be willing to work, regardless of whether or not theyre advertising as having vacancies. However, it probably wont be that easy to come by a job in the current economic climate, especially when there are so many people, that arent students, looking for work also. But good luck with it:)

Sorry to put a downer on ya but I'm in the exact situation as yourself (19, student). I went around to hand in CVs everywhere in Blanch shoppping centre looking presentable and only 2 places would take them. I always thought getting the interview was the first hurdle but when they won't even take the CV, it's a bit depressing!

Keep your eye on fás' jobseeker section and hope for the best. Good luck!

Don't give up, keep at it and try your best. I'm 19 year old student, and got a job back in December after months of searching, then was let go in January due to a different shop closing down and there permanent staff being re-shopped, but was re-hired 6 days later and am still working.

After being let go I was disappointed big time, but was waiting 2 wees before I gave it another go. There's jobs there, just need to go and get them.;)

Id look away from your usual shops, pubs etc.At this time of year there may be farmers looking for help to turn turf or help cutting silage.I know a man who hired a fella to turn 70 yard rows of turf at 11euro a row.Tough work but better than nothing!Im 19 myself and luckily I have a part-time job that Ive had since I was 16.

The only thing I can say is if your applying for retail, make sure your CV says your are fully flexible ( available between 7 am to 10pm every day) and your lack of other other commitments, ie no hols booked etc.

More than lightly, you would only be offered between 10 - 20 hrs per week so make it known that this is fine with you.

Of course only say this if it is true.
