He is also a director at EBS and was involved in the screening of developer loans that have effectively bankrupted that society.

    Not just "that" society :(

Obviously this government's "vote of confidence" goes beyond their own idiots and scheisters.

Given his track record, you'd have to wonder why......

Actually, he is what I'd consider to be Harney's idea of a top class manager. She put Drumm there after all.

is harney in the running for being one of the most dispised Minister / TD's that we have witnessed in the last 20 years?(with the notable exceptions of CJH, Pee Flynn...............etc)

He is also on a generous 228 K a year, yet what the **** was Drumm being paid over 400 K a year for this job?

And please, don't give me the lame, "If you want the best you have to pay."

The guy hasn't started yet, but IF he can make real positive changes then I will
    not begrudge him this salary

328k a year actually (eircom paid him 680) but drumm had a team of advisors and a 25% performance bonus

    He's on more like 322K: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2010/0529/1224271393402.html?digest=1

They apparently couldn't hire anyone at 228K..

A failed private sector manager being brought into to ruin the health service?

Doesn't surprise me at all, happens at all levels of management.

Remember what a success the privatisation of Eircom was?
    Health service to follow.

If you all held yourselves to the same level you expect of others you might have realised he took over as acting CEO of Eircom in February 2009 and that the EBS loan book is 90%+ residential.

Put your pitchforks away and take your heads out of your arses.

I can't speak for everyone, but my head is nowhere near my arse.

I do know a few politicians who talk through theirs, though.

Not ONE person who had responded to this thread before me had put context on the content.

    Call it what you want.

We will pay 1 billion for that failed EBS crap.

And he is part of the reason it failed.

Eircom still delivers a rubbish product for a high price. What did he solve there?

We have paid €100 million for EBS so far, anything beyond that is speculation at this point. It is not a failed business. Ask any of its 200,000+ owners if they feel their money is safe in their accounts and you'll get your answer. (The AGM was on yesterday BTW, couldn't make it myself).

    Read what I wrote again:

I doubt it was a job he particularly wanted...they call them caretaker managers in sporting circles.

We have paid 100 million so far, and we know for sure they'll need more. Most estimates predict at least 650 million more. Money we could be putting into something far more valuable.

It is a failed business because it's in massive debt and not viable without us bailing it out.

Doesn't matter, he was still responsible for it during that period of time, and if he wants to take credit for the structural changes he brought to the company (which the HSE are pointing to as primary evidence of his ability), he must also take responsibility for the fact they continue to distribute highly-priced rubbish and are hardly financially safe yet.

Yes but it's been the other 10% that's brought the Building Society to the verge of collapse, needing government intervention to allow it to remain functioning
