Just a quick question. In a poetry essay do you think a quote from a critic or a quote from the poet themselves is more impressive? :) So many quotes, so little time

A combination of both. Don't kill yourself over them. Seriously 3 quotes per poem thrown in here and there are fine. Maybe a critic quote at beginning of essay or at the end.

Everyone should really try and focus on paper 1 I think... Both papers are worth same marks. Try and perfect your paper 1 skills rather than killing yourself to learn quotes..

Neither are really necessary, but if you have the time (and more importantly, the quote is relevant!) then learn a few to throw in.
