The BBC today announces it will be launching a simulcast of BBC One in high definition (HD) this Autumn.

BBC One HD, which will simulcast a network version of the BBC One schedule for the first time, will see some of the BBC's most loved programmes including EastEnders, Holby City, The One Show, The Apprentice, The Weakest Link and QI move to HD by the end of the year. They will be broadcast alongside Autumn schedule highlights including Strictly Come Dancing, Human Planet and Waterloo Road.

It will be in addition to the existing BBC HD channel, which will showcase the best of the rest of the BBC in HD. It is also announced today that the BBC HD Channel itself will extend its regular broadcast hours over the coming months from around nine hours a day to 12.

The links says that BBC HD will continue alongside BBC One HD so I would be surprised if Sky swapped it. Deals would have been made for BBC HD

Any number allocated for it on the Freesat EPG? Be nice if one could place it at 101 and ITVHD at 103. Maybe Humax will do a software upgrade. Wonder whcih region they will make HD?

This, along with BBC HD should now be the best of BBC2, 3 and 4 which is great news.

I'd imagine that it will be the London region just like the ITV1 HD channel.

Whats the deal with this with existing Sky customers that have the old plus boxes that are not HD ready, do we get an upgrade to a new plus HD ready box for free seeing as new customers that sign up to Sky+ get these new HD ready boxes and can view the likes of BBC HD, C4 HD etc... ?

New Sky customers in this country cannot view Channel 4 HD.

Why would you and why would you expect sky to give you one? When sky are advertising sky+ with the hd ready box, they dont claim any advantage or the ability to watch fta hd channels, despite the fact that you can. Just buy a sky hd box, on adverts or whatever i guess

Yes they do state the ability to watch them:

Luxe TV HD, Channel 4 HD, BBC HD and ITV1 HD are available without subscription. Channel 4 HD requires a viewing card. ITV1 HD is only available in England and Wales.

Sky+: You will receive a Sky+HD box which has all the features of Sky+. To view free to air HD content (BBC HD, Channel 4 HD, ITV1 HD and Luxe HD) you need a HD ready TV

Doesn't matter. You signed up at the time based on what was availabe, they are under no obligation to upgrade your hardware. They do deals for existing customers, those are your only options

Fair enough, tbh, i had just expected sky to pull the "we only want you to know what we tell you" card, and them to claim you need to pay their 15€ HD sub for any kind of HD content, at least their open to that. I wonder though, did the idea of making all boxes HD boxes come from the recent launch of freeview HD in the UK, they wouldnt want people switching back to subscription free tv now would they! :)

I wasn't expecting much from them to be honest but when I said about the new boxes and the likes of BBC HD, C4 HD etc... the woman I spoke said that they and the standard broadcast of BBC, C4, ITV and the rest are nothing to do with sky and you need to manually tune them in, to which I replied you don't and they are already on the Sky EPG. She then said she was wrong and that they are included along with RTE, TV3... as part of the standard subscription price so I asked the question again with regards to my point about the new boxes and the HD channels outside the €15 HD pack and what their own site says about them, she couldn't answer it.

I know it was a bit of a long shot, but worth a try.
