Does anyone know who wrote or gave Walt the comics he was reading in Season 1- the comic depicted what the survivors of Oceanic 815 were going through at the time?

wow, I have absolutely no recollection of this. Can't wait to go back and watch season 1 again.... although it may annoy me a bit due to unanswered questions ;)

He found them in the wreckage I think was the story. No idea who wrote them. It didn't really depict a wole lot but the polar bear attacking people from what I recall. I think it was put in there as a kind of inside joke for humour effect more than anything. Didn't Michael pick one up some time and tell Walt that it was rubbish and stuff like that doesn't happen...

It was Hurley's comic before the crash.
