I'm planning to put a gate at the end of my driveway. Got a quote of €600 for two 7x5 ft red deal gates aswell as wood posts to hang them. Is this a reasonable quote? It doesnt include putting gate in.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    im looking for gates also.
    i need a 3.5m wide x 1.1m high roller gate
the best price i got was 1700 for the gate fitted
    with the rollers, teak wood.

i was shocked by the price, so don't think i will be
    affording it at the moment.

would be good to hear what other rices people have gotten.

    Yea, they are pretty expensive.

The hinge sets for them are suprisingly expensive for those gate.. a ripoff to be honest, that price includes the hinges normally and they normally cost about 100 euro

I'm in the market for some myself, 12 foot wide wooden ones.
I'm in Kildare but does anyone know of any decently priced suppliers?

I'd probably put them up myself (lots of practice of that growing up ;) )

    Smokingman,

I too am looking for prices for a front door, 2 x stairs, doors for my garage and wooden gates and thought it would be good to go to a joiner for all this. Went to one in Athgarvan/Kilcullen who are expensive but their product seems very good. Stairs seem cheap but gates/garage doors seem very expensive...

That's my problem Voodoo, gates I've got quotes on so far are nearly 1600 quid!
It'll be a while before I could afford that but there has to be someone that'll do it a lot cheaper than that...

yea, you have to watch to see if the bottom and middle rails are 8" + inches to be nice and strong and there 3" thick but this is usually standard. If your getting them you should really consider a spring gate wheel as the gates longer than high, puts allot of strain on the joints. Also personally i think you should try put the gate on a RSJ (steel I beam) of 8" post as there will be allot of pressure on it.
